The concept is the brainchild of a single person’s belief in the power of boundless empathy. Philippe Wolf A.K.A. Vol_Core devoted his working life to spreading awareness for Amnesty International and spends any spare moment exploring music. Being drawn to non-mainstream production from the underbelly of the industry, he realised both worlds shared a common emotion; unity.
I Am Nasty is his way of translating that common ground into positive action, donating all proceeds to Amnesty International. It took a profound knowledge of the scene, a calm complexion and a leap of faith, but it definitely proved worthy of the effort. I Am Nasty is now looking forward to it’s third edition, staying true to the original non-profit idea thanks to a warm welcome and helping hand from everyone involved. Each edition is proving bigger and better, with more local and overseas artists happily doing their bit to promote global human rights.

The first edition took us from reggae and ragga through oldskool jungle all the way to raggacore. The rootsy mood was set by the delightful Lioness Rebelation crew.
Some good old favorites and new local talents built up to an amasing set by Mad Dem sound, which created a buzz that lasted well into the early hours.

Round two was like the darker flipside to the first night, ranging from drum&bass to oldskool jungle, rave and core. Despite having to close up early due to unforseen circumstances, the turn out
was amasing. Thanks to the spirited sets delivered throughout the evening the vibe was better than ever.

Session three brings on a change of venue, so on to pastures new, far away from early closing times. We’re all working our magic to make this the nastiest one ever so get ready for more goodwill partying.

The Taraf de Haïdouks - the name literally translates as "band of honourable brigands" - are a bunch of extraordinary and colourful characters, who have managed to convince the audiences of the biggest World Music festivals. "Their wild energy is the essence of gypsy music ... their set seemed like the bubbling source of 20th century rhythm ... they spun out cadences that recalled bebop, salsa, and the polyrhythms of Zimbabwe and Nigeria" (The New York Times), "the band that's wowing London" (The Evening Standard, 7 June 2001) through their rhythmically complex songs with grace, easy camaraderie and sense of mischief wins over everybody in concerts.
Along with these ambitious compositions one will rediscover with great pleasure the fantastic atmosphere of a Taraf de Haïdouks live performance in a collection of previously-unrecorded pieces featuring the various singers and soloists in top form and particularly galvanized by the importance of the event. These were indeed the band's first ever concerts in the Romanian capital; after ten years of international success the Taraf were still not recognized in their own country (maybe because they were perceived as Gypsies rather than as musicians).
We are also running an international Dj and Mc competition through ASR, in assoc with Random Concept with the final top 3 Djs and Mcs playing at Ocean Bar Leamington Spa February 27th 2009.
One winning Dj and one winning Mc will then go through to play at the Global Energy Pontins Weekender 20th - 23rd March 2009 Camber Sands, and also win a years residency with the Random Concept academy.
