Sounds Like
A real voice with real guitars playing real songs with real musicians.
If onemanriot was a mark of punctuation, it would be a colon: more authoritative in its demand for pause than a comma, yet less finite than a period. One gets the impression that what is to come is of great importance.
However, onemanriot is not a colon, nor is it a call to revolution; it is a concept which should hold true for any individual looking to pursue a dream and escape conformity. It is about taking action in fallowing your heart.
Hunter Davidsohn, the life-force behind onemanriot, is a product of his surroundings. The Binghamton terrain, like so many towns in upstate New York, is pockmarked with the post-apocalyptic skeletal remains of what was to be a great industrial boom, yet ended up a meager poof—and to dust it returned. With factories abandoned and potential forsaken, the majority of a dwindling population is lucky if they can tread high enough above helplessness and succumb to apathy. However, what has been accepted by elected officials and their constituents as a lost cause was, for Davidsohn, a call to greatness. This is not to say he is oblivious to reality or considers himself above what “is” or “is not”. To the contrary, he finds solace and inspiration by manipulating his existence to include those who do breed inspiration and growth, positive surroundings, compelling personal experience, and—most importantly—by creating music people can relate to.
To say onemanriot is simply beautiful would be unfair to the atmosphere in which it was conceived. In the same way that Hamlet is beautiful so too is onemanriot: eloquent, moving, and ultimately tragic—there is quietness without acquiescence and at the end of both we are left with more questions than when we started. So, in reality, the music has only just begun.
