i am evil records was specifically been set up for the purpose of releasing the recorded works of myself, edward gains, and my band the demi whores, as well as maybe helping a few other folks get their stuff out there... now, it's not really a "real" record company... i mean who the f@k would want to start a record company in these troubled times... when everything is burning... but i do still put out records... i still believe in music and it is exciting to know that now artists are totally free to put their music out by themselves via the internet without the horrible thought of having to wait 3 years for someone else to put their first record out... and thats what this is... when i first started recording music in 1994 i had no desire to even put an album out... my first 3 albums just kind of happened without much thought, apart from 'i want to record something'... by the time i came to putting out the demi whores album in 2006 i had few more clues on what you have to do to get something out there in the world... i found the whole process completely at odds with the whole reason i played music for in the first place... which was basically for fun and to make myself feel happy... i found it really stressfull and for that fact alone i don't think i will ever put out a record like that again... because i lost myself in the "business" side of things and forgot to practice or write any new f@king songs... doh!!! so if my future records come out for free on the i am evil records website with no promotion and no release show then so be it!!! after saying that though, and to completly contradict myself, 2008 has seen i am evil records put out 2 amazing records, the shrugs' 'how to knit a pony' and onanon's 'home baking'... it's exciting because it's not my music, and because of that i don't feel weird asking people to play it or listen to it or to write about it in their magazines and on their websites because i think it's a bunch of awesome songs that heaps of people should hear and should know about, and go and buy... so on goes the "record company" hat again... and out into the streets i go to make music videos dressed as a horse... and down into the basement i go to screen print some t-shirts... edward gains (CEO- i am evil records, a non-profit making organisation).
