I love the arts-- theatre, museums, music, film, literature... you name it. I thrive on traveling to new places & enjoy trying new cuisine. I crave deep intellectual conversations but also crack up at stupid puns & love hokey amusement parks. I love entertaining, but am no Martha Stewart (thank god—horizontal stripes just don’t work for me!) I enjoy photography & writing—just never seem to make enough time. I love snorkeling & want to learn to scuba dive.
Music
I enjoy listening to music, but am not plugged in all the time. I think too many people miss out on the soundtrack of our lives! Favorites include Sarah McLachlan, Billy Joel, Elton John, Sting, U2, the Santana collaboration albums, old INXS, Norah Jones, Motown, Sarah McLachlan, hard rock ballads, & I still smile when I hear the 80’s pop & alternative music of my youth! I love jazz & blues and want to hear & learn more. Country is starting to grow on me, but as Donny used to sing in his purple socks, I’m a little bit (more) rock ‘n roll. Rap is lost on me—especially if the lyrics glorify violence and denigrate women (not to sound like Tipper or anything!)
Movies
I’ll ‘fess up… I’m a sucker for old & new heart-warming movies that make me laugh & cry (yeah, ok & mushy chick flicks, shut up, I’m trying to cry!!!) like Amelie, Groundhog Day, Shakespeare in Love, Say Anything, Return to Me, all the Jane Austen remakes, It’s A Wonderful Life, Il Postino, Philadelphia Story, Love Actually, While You Were Sleeping, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Everafter, Serendipity, Next Stop Wonderland, Romancing the Stone, The Truth About Cats & Dogs, Ghost, Titanic, 50 First Dates, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, & all the classic Disney animated films.
Bringing Up Baby, All of Me, Better Off Dead, Trading Places, & Monty Python still crack me up. Loved all the Indiana Jones, Star Wars, & Lord of the Rings movies, Back to the Future, ET, & and most John Hughes’ movies (they were my coming of age flicks!) So far I haven’t found a Merchant Ivory film or a movie starring Jimmy Stewart, Katherine Hepburn, or Audrey Hepburn that I didn’t enjoy. More modern fave actors include Emma Thompson (especially in Much Ado About Nothing), Steve Martin, Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, & John Cusack. Generally hate totally slasher/gore horror movies (love psychological thrillers.)
Television
Pushing Daisies has renewed my faith in television programming! I was coerced into watching Grey’s Anatomy, but it has definitely has grown on me. I’m enjoying Men in Trees but probably mostly because it’s reminiscent of one of my all time faves, Northern Exposure. I also miss Alias, Remington Steele, Moonlighting, The Paper, & The Muppet Show. The A&E version of Pride & Prejudice is probably my favorite TV production of all time. I love irreverent humor like the Simpsons... South Park gets a bit extreme for me though... Channel surfing often finds me ending up on Animal Planet (I know big surprise there!)
Books
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen is my absolute favorite book of all time—I love all her books. Mysteries are my favorite reads—especially ones that feature tough, smart heroines like V.I. Warshawski & Skip Langdon. Dorothy Sayer’s Gaudy Night is probably the best mystery I’ve ever read… have to read more of her. Oh, and yes, I'm a Harry Potter fanatic!
Heroes
Elie Wiesel, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jane Goodall, FDR, JFK, MLK, Gandhi, Albert Einstein, David Ben-Gurion, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Nelson Mandela, Audrey Hepburn, Bob Hope, and our armed forces (though I’m anti-war and still don’t know why the hell we’re in Iraq, I’m grateful for their service!) Childhood heroes? Robin Hood & Aquaman (what girl wouldn’t fall for a guy who can talk to dolphins?!)

About me: I love my family & friends with all my heart and value them above all else. My dog Roo (the cuter one on the right!) is a 6 year-old pit mix rescue who I adopted at 6 months and love beyond measure. The latest addition to our pack is Kabuki, an abandoned kitten I was just going to foster until he was adoptable, but now over 2 years later, he definitely permanently squirmed his way into my heart… can you say sucker? Yeah, with a capital "S!")
I get recharged by being out in nature... whether it’s the beach, woods, a park, or even just my yard (loving having one after 11 years in Manhattan!) And in case you didn’t already figure it out, I love animals. I even went through a phase of wanting to be Jane Goodall & spent a whole summer observing baboons. (I learned a lot about human behavior in the process!)
I'm passionate about social welfare/justice issues... and to say I'm liberal is probably the understatement of the century. I work & volunteer in the nonprofit sector because as Gandhi so wisely said, I believe we need to be the change we want to see in the world.
Life’s richness is in the details. As the song goes, here are a few of my favorite things: the sound of the ocean… anything swirl-shaped—especially shells… sunflowers… dark chocolate & ice cream… the glisten of light reflected in water… NPR… tree branches glazed by the frosting of ice and snow, & the smell of cinnamon.
You Are Kermit
Hi, ho! Lovable and friendly, you get along well with everyone you know.
You're a big thinker, and sometimes you over think life's problems.
Don't worry - everyone know's it's not easy being green.
Just remember, time's fun when you're having flies!
Friends: I’d like to reconnect to old friends & meet some new friends, but I value quality over quantity!
Networking: I’m consulting & job hunting right now, so I’d love to network with people who are working for philanthropic foundations and/or doing nonprofit or social/behavioral communications/marketing/PR. I'm also exploring freelance writing opportunities.
Dating: I’m kind of old fashioned—definitely not looking for “hook ups”, so if that’s all you’re looking for, move on, dawg! I'm still looking for that special someone… not a certain physical type, but someone who is kind, affectionate, intelligent, fun, loyal, honest, responsible, considerate, and passionate about their interests and beliefs. Someone who is respectful and worthy of respect. So what makes me swoon? Witty repartee, small thoughtful gestures, & guys not afraid to show their sensitive side. I don't like playing games in relationships, (though I'm always up for Clue, Cranium, Air Hockey, or Pictionary!) I appreciate people who are straight forward & can communicate their feelings. Life is puzzling enough, I don’t need that in a relationship (though again, I do enjoy a good crossword, Sudoku, or mystery!) I'm not high maintenance, but do appreciate the finer things in life. But it's the everyday small stuff that really matters.
