It's rare for both demos and signed bands to arrive sounding so fully developed and unique. Its harder still for that band to latch into your heart, filling a gap in your life you never knew existed. This tender, devastatingly gorgeous song by the York quartet is just such a rarity. 'bloody marvellous' - The Fly 'I am Jack' is a musical phenomenon built on superlatives. Their epic, widescreen ambition is matched only by its execution. Spine-tingling melodies are interwoven through ethereal, cinematic backdrops - shimmering
and opaque, in turn swarming and dissonant. Atmospherically charged soundscapes are pervaded with an overwhelming sense of faith and purity. This music makes sense: this is music to believe in. An underlying sense of purpose runs throughout the band's compositions. Emotions long thought lost are encapsulated and evoked to stimulate the imagination and consolidate the listener's feelings. At times these are wide-eyed, tender; touching in their naivety. At others they are confounded, cynical, bruised. They are always compelling. No fashion is being followed, no trend being set. This is a singular one-shot. "I am Jack" has a timeless quality, free of all past constraints and future expectation.
