Solo Artist/Songwriter from Sunderland North East of England, Leanne Lawson AKA Leila which her Manager Samantha named her after many months of deciding upon a suitable stage name. Leila derives from her first name and surname and gives her the authenticity and elegance which compliments her beauty & wonderful personality. Leila signed a Management Deal with Samantha from Excellence Records back in 2007 and has since been focusing on writing her own material, she has also co-written alongside top songwriters/producers Mick Walsh and Tommy Morrison.
Leila also has had the opportunity to perform live at the Sage Music Hall, whereby she received a standing ovation from over 2,000 spectators after performing Sing Sing A Song by the incredibly talented Karen Carpenter. Her musical career took shape from the age of 7 where she began dancing and acting and by the age of 13 years of age her singing evolved. Her parents recognized her talent and decided to enter her into Stars In Their Eyes in which she was accepted out of 50,000 applicants to perform on ITV as Brenda Lee.
At the age of 15 Leila began working on new material with London based producer/songwriter Gary Bellars, some of her early material included tracks such as Calling My Angel & Falling In Love.
In 2007, Leila developed a love for songwriting and her own style evolved naturally. Her music can be described as very diverse, Pop/R&B/Soul she is a flexible artist with vision and passion, her general sound is somewhere in between Duffy, Christina Aguilera & Leanne Rimes.
Leila received extensive radio airplay on The Mike Mendoza Show as Samantha was co-presenting on Talksport Radio, the UK’s no1 national commercial radio station and has performed charity events alongside The Latch and Mesh-29. In June 2008 Leila and her Manager flew to Gold Coast in Australia whereby she spent a few weeks writing alongside top Australian band August Way, a wonderful track comprised namely ‘Hold On’ written by Mobius Barnaby, former member of award winning Australian band ‘George’ and produced in Brisbane by Phil Slade.
In July Leila signed a publishing deal with top New York company ACM Records.
In December 2008, Leila will begin working on her first album and new musical direction alongside one of the most incredibly talented UK singer songwriter/producers and former A1 vocalist Ben Adams. He has kindly offered his time to produce Leila’s new material at his studios namely ‘Park Bench’ near Battersea park and it will be such an honor for her to have the opportunity to work alongside a man of his caliber. Her album will be released by summer 2009, which will coincide with a UK tour.
