    With foundations in sample based music, Naik has taken the musical collage concept one step further. The addition of live instrumentation and progressive song structures has seen Naik forge his way into unchartered territory with a sound that owes as much to prog-rock as it does to hip-hop. Naik’s debut album ‘In The Shadow of Thunder Mountain’ is dark and complex with a quality that rings true to the musical purist in all of us. An exotic blend of psychedelic guitars, twisted samples, booming synths and crunchy beats, the album has received critical acclaim locally, coming in at #5 in RTRFM music manager Dave Cutbush’s top 10 albums of 2009, and at #7 in the top 10 of Drum Media’s Jo Lettenmaier. Naik’s live show has also received critical acclaim and was voted best Australian live performance of 2009 by the Members Only writers of Drum Media. Naik was also nominated for best live act at the 2009 Perth Dance Music Awards. The live show features Naik on buttons, effects and guitars with producer Kit-Pop on the decks and Astep on the drums. They have played at festivals such as Parklife, Low:Fi, Breakfest and Origin and supported the likes of Pharoahe Monch, Gaslamp Killer, Kid Koala, Clark (Warp), Dave Miller (PVT), The People Under The Stairs, Dexter, and Marc Hype and Jim Dunloop. Naik’s background as a filmmaker also informs his music. Naik (or Sam Price as he’s otherwise known) has produced WAMi award winning videos for the likes of Birds of Tokyo, Downsyde and Eleventh He Reaches London. His animation work can also be viewed on local DVD magazine Cut & Paste. Naik’s debut album ‘In The Shadow of Thunder Mountain’ was released locally through Paper Chain People on October 9th 2009. 2010 thus far has seen Naik receive 2 WAMi award nominations for Best Electronic Producer and Best Electronic Act. He has also received 2 nominations for the Perth Dance Music awards for best live act and best hip-hop act.
