"I Am Not Neil Young, the musical" is the autobiographical journey of Frank Wilks the successful Toronto musician who, as a member of Buffalo Springfield Revisited, found success but lost himself. The band, Buffalo Springfield Revisited, featured Bruce Palmer on bass and Dewey Martin on drums, both original members of the legendary band Buffalo Springfield. Frank was in front singing Neil Young and Steven Stills songs and playing rythym guitar and keyboards, with Stan Endersby on guitar and vocals as well as Bob Fredricson. They toured America and Canada throughout the eighties. They played to crowds of forty to fifty thousand. They lived the rock star life but…then, After decades of being Neil Young, a shadow on the things he’s done, Frank must find Frank and ask Who Am I ?
Frank Wilks (performer, co-writer, producer) began his career as a solo musician in the mid-seventies playing small clubs in Toronto. Eventually, Frank became a member of a band called "Bully Hill" which toured throughout Ontario, Canada. Then in 1984, Frank met up with Music Hall of Fame bass player, Bruce Palmer of the "Buffalo Springfield".
Becoming fast friends, Frank and Bruce, along with Stan Endersby, developed the "Buffalo Springfield Revisited". Also Music Hall of Fame, drummer Dewey Martin was brought up from California to prepare for an American tour as "Buffalo Springfield Revisited". This band toured extensively across the USA and Canada for six years. Frank shared the stage with artists like, The Band, John Sebastian, Skunk Baxter and Spencer Davis. Frank has performed in concerts in front of 50 thousand people with such bands as Spirit, The Chambers Brothers, Iron Butterfly, The Guess Who and many more. Frank has been on the "Jerry Lewis Telethon" at Ceasar’s Palace Vegas live on international TV. Music Hall of Fame guitarist and singer "Steven Stills" of Buffalo Springfield and CSN&Y made appearances numerous times with the "Revisited" band.
In 1992, Frank Wilks returned from LA to Toronto and formed a band called "White Buffalo", which continued the circuit for two years. Another band, "Big Medicine" followed, which produced a CD with six of Frank’s songs on it. The song "Nairobi", written by Frank, was released as a single and a video, which is still played on the radio and on Much Music video channel.
In the year 2000, Mr. Wllks produced a solo CD entitled "Raise My Spirit Away" with a number of Toronto musicians. In this original work, Frank shares with you the love and spirit of music.
From 2002-4, Frank performed with "The Frank Wilks Trio", later to be called "Beerocracy". And, of course, he formed a "Neil Young Tribute Band" using the name "White Buffalo" again. Just recently, Frank produced and recorded another CD of his own songs. It is called "Walking To Your Own Beat" with fifteen songs on it.
And now, with two years of sobriety under his belt, Frank is ready for the new challenges of the “I Am Not Neil Young, the musical” tour.
