Ask Richard Gardner to describe his music and he’ll quote Frank Zappa at you; "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture". Or else he’ll ask you to go and talk to someone who’s seen him play live. This reluctance to pigeon-hole himself or his music springs from more than just a desire to be awkward or pinned down to a narrow definition of himself. Every song that "falls out" as he puts it, is different to the last. His voice finding and mastering new territories to suit the musical landscape that unfolds before the listener.
The songs that you hear on this profile are a small sampling of his back catalogue, not necessarily representative of his live performances.
It was with this in mind that Richard sat down and realized that he needed to make a live album recording to capture on record what people have been hearing, and loving, for years.
The project; Just For The Record is set for early Autumn
With songs about life, love, loss and communication (or the lack of it) Richard’s music spans many styles and genres from the psychedelic blues of "Cut the Cord" to alt.folk/rock like "The Obvious Mistake", "Piece by Piece" and "Not True" to the chamber pop of "Take it Back". The impassioned delivery of all of these is thrown nicely into balance by songs like "Whole Lotta Woman", "Baby Blues" and "Night & Day" showing the lighter side of life. The forthcoming release, the daddy_longlegz demos, expected later this year showcases some of the more established material alongside future favourites. Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

Distraction presents Kania Tieffer, a otter-fixated Chick On Speed cacking out pleasantly disturbed lo-fi fake nonsense r'n'b and vitriolic electropop with cheap children's keyboards, a battered old computer and an electric guitar, in an unmissable live show. Support comes from sample stealing, tune pinching, melody wrecking a-moral wrong-uns and kings of nostalgia-core Radgepackets, and pointlessly hostile bootmash-noisewhore-wrongtronica idiot Dressed In Wires!
