Books. Big on reading. Have to read. If I don't read, I go nucking futs! Music, see below. Trying to avoid spending time in front of the TV. Attempting to stimulate a social life. not easy for someone relatively introverted. I kill spiders, usually after they have scared the shit out of me. Improving my pool & dart game. Trying new beers and brewing. Computers. Various other hobbies. Tennis. Yes, I play tennis. Well, I attempt to play tennis. Working out when the school schedule allows for it. Making excuses for not knowing how to swim.
  • Music

I listen to a lot of music. I listen to it at work, home, school, gym, in the car. Pretty much everywhere. If I can I try to stream in Pandora; it really is the best music website out there.

Some personal favorites: lacuna coil, tiger army, social distortion, megadeth, nightwish, soilwork, fear factory, mudvayne, type o negative & VAST

Recent favorites are the showdown, avenged sevenfold, funeral for a friend, armor for sleep, from autumn to ashes, atreyu, as i lay dying, Coheed & Cambria, My Brothers Blood Machine, Maroon 5

Oldies but goodies: Pantera, AFI, Himsa, Dave Matthews (thanks to a year of car-pooling to school with Muz and having in brow-beaten into me), Ben Harper, Slayer, 311, Katatonia, Opeth, Green Carnation, Linkin Park, Alice in chains, Metallica, AC/DC, Ozzy & Ozzy era Black Sabbath, Megadeth

Some other shit: a little Marilyn Manson, Gravity Kills, Stabbing Westward, KMFDM

I just discovered the Dropkick Murphys. Holy crap: Punk + Irish music = frickin' sweet.
  • Movies

Waking life, black hawk down, band of brothers, 13th warrior, mindwalk, suicide kings, goonies, kevin smith, underworld, donnie darko, alien, we were soldiers, ghost in the shell, three colors, army of darkness, Brotherhood of the wolf, dazed and confused, the last samurai, lord of the rings (of course), master and commander, napolean dynamite, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Stargate, drop dead gorgeous, the Bourne series, Blood Diamond was quite good as was the Good Shepherd. I tend to like a variety of movies from cheesy horror (Lost Boys & Monster Squad (that's right bitches, The Monster Squad)) to foreign (Au Revoir Les Enfants) to generic american ilk.

  • Television

    ......
What little TV I do watch consists of Heroes, Battlestar, South Park, Good Eats (yes, I watch cooking shows and I am not afraid to admit it), The Daily Show, and, like everyone else in my demographic, The Family Guy.
  • Books

Dune, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Guns Germs and Steel, Michael Moorcock, History, Philosophy (esp. Camus & Sartre), political science, Krishnamurti, robert ludlum/ken follet, sophie's world, Dude, Where's my country, Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, and various samplings of the Federalist Papers and Hunter S. Thompson essays. A Song of Fire & Ice, 2600, Gore Vidal, George Orwell, Crimes Against Nature (RFK, Jr.), A Million Little Pieces (James Frey), Collapse (Jared Diamond), War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning (Chris Hedges), My Friend Leonard (James Frey, I don't care if it's all a lie, Frey is still a good story-teller), Balkan Ghosts (Robert Kaplan), No god but God (Aslan), Neverwhere (Gaiman), Unbearable Lightness of Being, but thats the only Kundera book I've read. It's one I need to re-read, along with the bi-annual reading of ZatAoMM and The Stranger; there are so many books I have at home that I haven't read yet and I keep acquiring more.

  • Heroes

I don't have heroes. I have people that I admire, people whose actions and words can inspire me to be a better person; people who can inspire me to seek new knowledge and help me to make that knowledge useful. But I don't have heroes.

Blurbs

About me:

I've been in Portland for a year and a half. I like it here. I'm kind of a big deal. Sometimes.

I came up here to go back to school at Portland State. I'm sure it'll happen. School has never been a huge interest of mine. Learning is enjoyable; it's all the homework that agitates me.

This could be a potential Burning Man year for me. 2005 was a seriously awesome week and everytime my buddy goes, I get some serious jealousy about not making out there with him. Hopefully I won't get too distracted.

The ONE Campaign!..

Who I'd like to meet:

Kickballers.

Let's see... She was supposed to start at 2 or 2:30. Sat on the freeway for three hours, inching along the shoulder... the whole time, the radio station is not giving updates or taking phone calls. Finally at 5 they tell us, go to the airport (3 miles away) and we'll send shuttle buses to get everyone in to the show. So we go to the airport. Yeah... no one at the airport knew what was going on. First shuttle bus showed up at 7. There was one every half hour or so and about 3000 people trying to get on one. It was 9 before we got close enough to the front of the line that we would be on the next shuttle. So, we said screw it and went to a strip club.
They said (finally) this morning that they are trying to get another show organized, and anyone that kept their ticket from Sat (we did) could use that ticket to get in. So they better come up with some good bands - I was really wanting to see Chevelle and Staind. And I heard Slipknot was awesome Saturday night. :( The show was outdoors and we've had 8 inches of rain in the past week and a half - there was mud wrestling, mud all over the stage... the pictures on the website are really pissing me off.

    Hey, friend.

Any chance of there being an opening on the Summer '09 kickball team? I'm officially making the big move in late April/early May...

Also: I'll be in town from right after Christmas through probably the second week in January. I know you'll need some serious time to prepare for my arrival, so I thought I'd give you the heads-up early.

    Hope things are well!
