    You are the Hanged Man

    Self-sacrifice, Sacrifice, Devotion, Bound.

With the Hanged man there is often a sense of fatalism, waiting for something to happen. Or a fear of loss from a situation, rather than gain.

The Hanged Man is perhaps the most fascinating card in the deck. It reflects the story of Odin who offered himself as a sacrifice in order to gain knowledge. Hanging from the world tree, wounded by a spear, given no bread or mead, he hung for nine days. On the last day, he saw on the ground runes that had fallen from the tree, understood their meaning, and, coming down, scooped them up for his own. All knowledge is to be found in these runes.

The Hanged Man, in similar fashion, is a card about suspension, not life or death. It signifies selflessness, sacrifice and prophecy. You make yourself vulnerable and in doing so, gain illumination. You see the world differently, with almost mystical insights.

About me:

General
I'm an eccentric, socially active hermit whose personality is a dichotomic cocktail of intelligent romanticism, cynical idealism, and passionate emotional detachment stemming from an inherent moral ambiguity. I enjoy drinking, writing, having sex, and dispensing wildly inappropriate commentary in the most polite and comically offensive manner possible.

I also make a mean breakfast quiche. And by quiche, I mean pancakes.

Writing
I began writing as soon as I was able to hold a pen and scrawl. Thankfully, the advent of the keyboard has made the work marginally more legible, though perhaps no more comprehensible. Certainly I have other important characteristics, but most eventually filter back to this. I'm a storyteller. I love words.

Left to my own devices, I prefer to compose long-winded, grandiose, descriptive pieces in a short format. I have also penned a children's story, a poetry collection (in my much younger days), and have designs upon completing at least one novel. Those ongoing aspirations are temporarily on hold as I am currently involved in screenplay projects.

Music
I'm a musician, though hardly a professional in the conventional sense. I've played drums for over 20 years in several genres. In addition to the live experience I've also done a fair bit of studio recording on the instrument. I also sing, write, arrange, and play guitar, bass, piano, and trumpet in varying degrees. I'd still love one day, even if only for my own enjoyment, to produce a full album of my own material, playing, recording, and mixing the entire project.

Wine
I'm a wine lover, but hardly a connoisseur. I prefer reds, mostly merlot, though the occasional cabernet/savignon strikes my fancy. A few of my favourites are: Buckley's Cabernet/Merlot Blend (Australia), Cape Diamond Merlot (Oregon), Coppola Merlot (California), Red Diamond Merlot (Washington), J. Garcia Merlot (California), Taylor Port (Spain/Portugal), Vampire Merlot (Paso Robles, California), (Fu-Ki Plum Wine (Japan)

Who I'd like to meet:

Harlan Ellison once wrote: "It's not me you love, it's the talent. I have nothing to do with that; I'm the vessel into which the wine was poured, but the crockery has no sweetness, it merely suffers itself to be carried about and used at the whim of the talent."

On the point of meeting strangers whom we admire, I agree with his sentiment. I imagine myself sitting down to dinner with the object of my admiration, a musician or writer whom I hold in high regard, and after the requisite small talk, being asked 'So why did you want to meet with me?', and being honestly incapable of formulating a worthwhile explanation for why I'd ask to meet such a stranger. In the presentation of their work, they've already given the lion's share, and I'm entitled to additional input no moreso than they are obligated to give it.

Given this logic, the people I would most like to meet are:

Myself and the three people closest to me five years from now.
