Ian grew up in the remote reaches of Western Massachusetts, and was involved with music from a young age. He started his musical training studying classical cello when he was 6, and switched to trumpet at age 12 after finding his father's old horn hidden in a cupboard. His trumpet playing eventually led him to Milton Academy, outside of Boston, where he studied jazz for his last two years of highschool. While there, he played numerous gigs in and around Boston, as well as traveling to South Africa and Botswana with the school jazz band for a 2 week tour. After highschool, Ian moved to Miami, FL where he studied Jazz Performance at the University of Miami. Somewhere along the way he realized that a degree in performance might not pay the bills and switched majors to Music Engineering and Technology. He graduated with a B.S. in that field and a minor in Electrical Engineering in December, 2007.
While Ian grew up listening mostly to jazz, funk, and blues, his first exposure to electronic music came in 10th grade when his brother gave him a DJ mix (Solitude Recordings). From there, he continued to explore house, downtempo, drum & bass, hip-hop and other genres both on his own and through his friends and further mixes from his brother Solomite. His first (unsuccessful in his mind) productions were created primarily on a Roland XP-50 keyboard. He moved to software production in his Freshman year of college, and has grown since then. Ian also received his first turntables and mixer from Solomite over the summer between Sophomore and Junior year and has used the turntables as an outlet for expression and a stress reliever ever since.
Ian met DJ Alex Liberatore, owner of Dynamix Records L.L.C. in Spring of 2006 at a house party he was playing. They have been close friends ever since and have produced several large multi-media projects together, as well as colaborating on countless productions.
