About me:
Sailor, photographer, writer
I'm off on the adventure that I've been dreaming of since I was a kid. Such a long time ago, but the dream has lived, and came to fruition. But I guess my whole life has been something of an adventrue, lived in 6 countries, and visited or worked in 100 others. I stayed long enough to speak 4 languages, 3 well, and one passable.
This one is to see the birthing of the whales in the Sea of Cortez, I'll be spending a year there photographing and writing about the experience. I live and sail on my Hardin ketch "Blythe Spirit", this next voyage will take me back to Mexico where I lived for 5 years, then possibly down to Guatemala and to revisit Costa Rica and maybe the Galapagos further down the line.
Growing up in and around the Ocean, I've watched people making trimarans from plywood and monohulls from cement, and listened to their dreams of sailing the seas in search of that wonderful place we have only in our minds and heart. And, here I am, in later life, doing the same as they were in their youth.
So, I'm setting off solo, in search of my own Shangri-la and the adventures that await. Come along with me on this photo journey, and share the visions waiting to be seen.
My primary tools in film consists of a Canon A1 and AE-1 which I shoot slide and convert to digital, in digital, a Fuji 3800 for the backpack, Konica Minolta A200, and a Sony DSC-R1. Salt air doesn't like DSLR's so I stay with permanent mounted lenses.
I occasionaly take on photographer crew, students and professionals, no charge only share expenses and duties. If interested along with comments or questions can be emailed to blyspirit@hotmail.com
My photo galleries are kept at http://www.ianhlnd.smugmug.com
