After years of line up and name changes, the dust has finally settled on the newest and most stable line up of Ian Olvera & The Sleepwalkers. The group regularly features Nikolas Davidson on drum kit, Connor Lamue on bass guitar and vocals, Ian Olvera on guitars and vocals, and sometimes Matthew O'Grady on guitars and vocals (including this show.) IO & TS create their own comfort zone wherever they go, be it playing all night to a rowdy bar or a shorter engagement to a coffee shop or theatre setting.
Building on the success of the groups 2007 debut e.p. "Some Of Us Dream" and in anticipation for 2010's upcoming full length record, the group has pulled out all stops in their current tour schedule, including dates all across Wisconsin and the midwest with friends old and new. A mid 2010 release is expected for the yet-untitled new record, which was recorded in Summer and Fall 2009 with the assistance of Justin Perkins (Obsoletes, The Wandering Sons, Screeching Weasel) and Adam Cargin (Blueheels, Screeching Weasel) at Howl Street Studios in Milwaukee and Top-Soil Studios in Oshkosh. Late summer 2010 plans are already in the works to begin recording the follow up. Busy busy busy is the motto for IO & TS...and there are no signs of slowing down.
"Ian Olvera and the Sleepwalkers bring a youthful energy and charm to a path already carved out by legends such as Springsteen and even Tom Petty." -Sonic Diet-WMSE Music News 5/25/10
"A more old fashioned take on pop" - The Spectator (UW-Eau Claire) 4/22/10
"SouthSide highly recommends fans getting to know Ian Olvera & The Sleepwalkers. This opening act from Green Bay, WI rocked the lineup with their Americana-sounding Alternative Rock set. This reviewer enjoyed the lively rhythm and riffs off the guitars." - SouthSide On The Town 3/25/10
"When You're Down" kicks things off with its relentless driving beat and catchy chorus as if it were almost a poppier version of Tom Petty's "Runnin' Down a Dream". The stacatto, "Getting Better"-style beat of "Derailed" follows and it's "ba-da, ba-da" chorus will have your toes tapping for hours. Olvera lets off the gas pedal a bit with "The Biggest News", a melancholy alt-country piece, but gets right back on the horse with "Treacherous Timbers", which has a song noir feel to it. All in all, it's a quality EP that's worth a spin. -STEVE @ ABSOLUTEPOWERPOP.BLOGSPOT.COM
