Bio
Ian was born at a very young age in Sunderland in the north east of England. He started playing the harmonica when he was 9 years old. After hearing BLACK NIGHT by DEEP PURPLE at the ripe old age of 11, his fate was sealed. After much pestering and grovelling, his parents got him his first guitar for his 12th birthday. His influences were of course Ritchie Blackmore, among others like: Steve Howe, Jan Ackerman, Al di Meola, John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth and many more. His favourite composers include: Frank Zappa, Igor Stravinsky, Nicolo Paganini and Johan Sebastian Bach. He has been living in Frankfurt, Germany since 1996 where he plays, composes and teaches. After 10 exciting years there with the superb rock band MOONPIRATES, he decided to concentrate on composing and collaborating with new people. His last project was playing guitar as part of the trio AGUA VIDA, led by the brazilian saxophone virtuoso and composer Joáo Gomes. On percussion is the excellent (and also brazilian) Cid de Freitas. Very fine musicians and great guys. Yes folks, of all the guitarists the world has ever known, Ian is one of them. -
