He’s young, he’s humble, he’s a performer and songwriter on his way from his beloved home in Tampa, FL, to somewhere else. Ian Koteles has been performing in a band publicly since the summer of 2004. Early on, he played in a popular local group with his brother Evan known as E&I. Tampa audiences came to recognize them for their easy listening yet strikingly tight original material as well as their stage presence and witty humor. Recently, with his brother off to college, Ian set out on his own to meet the world of music head on and realize his dreams under the bright lights of Nashville, TN.
Ian was raised in Tampa, Florida. Much of his musical inspiration has come from his father who started playing musical gigs in his early teens. As a child, Ian spent many a night hiding in the back of clubs for a glimpse of his dad on stage. From the first show he saw of his father it was clear, music would stand as more then just noise in his life; it would be the window to his soul. Ian’s father continues to be involved in the music business.
Recently, Ian participated in the 2007 International Dogwood Festival in Winchester, Tennessee competing in the Youthfest Battle of the Bands as a solo act. He placed third in the rigorous competition. Due to the incredible crowd response and popularity of his style and stage presence, Ian has been asked back to perform on the MAIN STAGE in 2008 where he will reunite with his brother to bring the full band sound to the 2008 International Dogwood Festival.
Ian was also asked to perform at the 23rd Annual Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival (FBISF) in November 2007. Most songwriters wait years to make the cut. Ian, however, was selected early in the 2007 selection process on for his incredible songwriting skills, smooth music style and perhaps even his boyish smile. An event of magnificent proportions held along the gulf shores of Alabama and Florida (11 days and 20,000 in the listening audience) Ian was an instant success as a newcomer to the festival.
In October, Ian moved to Nashville, TN, where the action is and music happens. To date, Ian has better than 85 original songs to his credit. His unassuming style struck the fancy of the Blue Bird Café, the legendary songwriters bar on the outskirts of Nashville generally reserved for the most seasoned songwriters. His humble approach to his craft and vigilant effort to realize his dream make Ian a performer to watch. There will come a time you will be able to say, I knew him when….
