"All art constantly aspires towards the condition of music." (W. Pater)
Sounds Like
"...For anyone mourning the passing of Can (and, in 2001, Can guitarist Micky Karoli) or too young to have caught them live, this duo is perhaps the nearest you'll get to the spirit of classic Can – or more specifically, on this follow-up to their 2001 debut Masters of Confusion, to the era of 1974's Soon Over Babaluma. While Axolotl Eyes is firmly based in electronica, the exquisite trumpet of Australian Ian Dixon places it in the jazz-ambient zone of Jon Hassell and Nils-Petter Molvær, though it's far superior to Molvær's hippy post-Miles noodlings; indeed, Dixon's crystalline pealing tone is more reminiscent of Kenny Wheeler or Lester Bowie. And unlike Molvær, the music plumbs great dark depths of weird post-Stockhausen operatic grandeur, while also remaining compulsively funky...." John Gill, Paris Transatlantic.

"Take a core sample of the jazz strata and BLOW is an assured and intoxicating distillation of many of its layers. This CD is a celebration of a shared passion and conviction; its wordless songs of joy are anthems to the human spirit and the collective experience of creating music in the moment." Gerry Koster, Jazz uplate, ABC Classic FM.

Extensive travel and study of birdsong, North-East African, Middle-Eastern and C20 western music informs Ian Dixon's unique approach to improvisation and composition.
Best known for his work as a trumpet player and composer/producer with UTE, a fascination with the world of sound and enthusiasm for cross-discipline collaborations has led to work in film and television, with visual artists, choreographers and in digital media. Ian has performed and recorded with a diverse range of artists including Kumo, Guru, Kenny Garrett, Ape, Corker Conboy, No-Man, Musiikki-Oy, Blow, Night Z, Ramjac, DJ Blame, Irmin Schmidt (Can), West Park, and most recently, solo as TPT.
Recently returned to residence in Australia after 15 years based in London, Ian balances his schedule of composition, recording and performing in Australia, Europe and the USA with teaching trumpet and improvisation at the Elder Conservatorium, University of Adelaide.
