| "Dreamy, dark EP that signals talent
The EP opens with the simple yet effective roundel of the title track. A gothic death song that builds and builds a la Robert Fosters Willard Grant of ‘Regard The End’ vintage. Up front vocals and acoustic beginnings sitting on a bed of bubbling instruments.
‘Amputation Song’ starts the same way with Williams' nasal vocals enhanced by a shadow harmony that beautifully counterpoints the guitar figures – lovely and effective. ‘No More Shall We Roam’ follows the template but with piano and subtle strings and a waltz time that creates the tension as we slip into the chorus which becomes a vaguely threatening mantra that dissolves into a musical morass of fuzz and plucked instruments and voices. There are reminders of Nick Cave and even Viarosa.
‘Keepin’ On’ lightens the tone but keeps the confessional vibe with the semi spoken delivery and the piano is rooted somewhere in 1972 on a Lennon or Nillson album. It is very familiar yet unfathomable.
Last track – ‘Still Around’ – a lo fi live recording with light overdubs that is still compelling. There were no PR notes with this EP but it is good enough to warrant further interest. Watch this space."
