The aim of Iboga is to make people travel just like the Iboga plant would.
Mixing ancestral sounds from Australia, Africa and South America (Didgeridoo and drums) with electronic ones (samples, synthesizers and beat box), Iboga seeks to blend traditional music with today’s sounds.
The mix of electronic loops, rhythmic phrases and didgeridoo’s growling bring the listener to travel around space (i.e. different countries in the world) and time (traditional and present).
Born in 2001, Iboga is based on improvisation on stage. Acoustic instruments, scratches and vinyl music merge in an innovative and modern formula. The next step was to skip the decks and bring the machines to play Iboga’s own productions. From ambient to trip hop and techno, their eclectic tracks aim to link all styles.
Comme la plante dont il tire son nom, le but d'Iboga est de faire voyager.
Au travers des sonorités ancestrales d'Australie, d'Afrique et d'Amérique du Sud (didjeridoo, berimbau et percussions), mais aussi grâce aux instruments électroniques actuels qui permettent de mélanger des sonorités diverses (samples berbères ou brésiliens), Iboga cherche à réconcilier l’authentique avec l’actuel.
Le mélange de boucles électroniques, de phrases rythmiques et de nappes de didgeridoo amène alors l’auditeur à voyager au travers de l’espace (les pays du monde entier) et du temps (le traditionnel et l’actuel).
Créé en septembre 2001, Iboga se veut avant tout un concept d’improvisation sur scène. À l’origine, les instruments acoustiques se mélangent aux scratchs et aux sons des vinyles dans une formule actuelle et innovante. Par la suite, Iboga abandonne les platines au profit des machines afin de jouer ses propres créations. Celles-ci vont de l’ambiant à la techno en passant par le trip-hop dans l’esprit d’abolir les frontières musicales.
