stings by blue bottles, riding horses along sand, water falling over clifftops, snake tails speeding beneath gumboots, steep climbs, social disorder, bus trips through cities, bubbles of saltwater & no breath left, road kill, sharp rocks on bare feet, palpable glances, blood relations, especially during & after dying, blood, salt, tears, kisses, cuts, beats, sounds, music, deafening cicadas, humans generally...also sigur ros, john lennon, jimi hendrix, ani di franco, cat power, randy newman, the pixies, joanna newsom, pj harvey, bob dylan, bob marley, wilco & billy bragg, dirty three, fur, janis jopin, jose gonzalez, lucinda williams....amongst many others....
Sounds Like
floating shipwrecks, old-time movies, babbling brooks singing to the fish, dusty electric guitars and sweet dreams after reading books by murakami, a simple sad song in the early hours of the morning outside a cafe in france where one can smell the fresh bread and the dawn coffee brewing...
... confined during her waking hours to a planet inhabited by crazy human beings, land dwelling animals, sea creatures, flying birds, insects, & sky traversing clouds, (to name but a few) ...one of the most befitting things to do here,... when not sleeping, ...seemed to involve building a bridge to the other worlds made of sounds & thoughts...it is presently 5 cm tall...this is extremely high if you happen to be a little creature, like a flea or a nit... and also very tiny, if you happen to be someone like a giraffe or an emu, (of which there are many in australia - sometimes hanging out at the beach, checking the surf & so on)..(emu's that is, not giraffes)... it is a pleasant bridge....made of bamboo & vines & extending across beautiful predator-filled gorges....it creaks a little when it's passengers are overly anxious or exuberant....& one must hold onto the edges as there are sections which can give way unexpectedly...

To follow up the highly successful “Rock Against Folk” late last year at the Clarence Corner, Brother Man Dude Promotions presents the next event in the series. “Rock Against Indie” will be staged Friday April 4, at The Clarence Corner Hotel.
Classic brutal masculine rock will be represented by The Old Order, City of Knox and fey sensitive indie pop by Malefic Theorem and The Old Wooden Dolls. Come and witness the spectacle of these 2 sexually charged opposites let loose in the same space.
In the middle will be referee Brother Man Dude who will provide an objective and sensible perspective on the night’s proceedings. He will make sure each team doesn’t become too aroused by the taunts and posturing of their opposite numbers. It could get vicious. As Lou Reed said, “You hit me with a flower. You do it very hour. Baby you’re so vicious.” Accordingly a prize will be given for the nastiest and most vicious use of a flower.
Stay tuned to Brother Man Dude Promotions for such ‘Rock Against’ events in the near future as Rock Against Youth, Country, Humour, Roots and Sex.
3.30 pm, Easter Sunday March 23 Bang Lasso @ Calypso Bar, Caxton St Free Entry
Brother Man Dude is gearing up for the release of FAME and INFAMY, a twin CD Song Writing Retrospective. He will be hitting the road to promote it in Newcastle in April and then Melbourne and Adelaide later in the year. It compiles all the best from his various bands and projects over the last 15 years. Each one of the 2 CDs represents a different side to the Brother Man Dude coin.
FAME is pop music and a desire to be taken seriously (Heads). Flip the coin over and INFAMY is humour and a desperate need to be noticed (Tails). Fame or Infamy. Make your call. Heads or Tails. Is this a joke? Call Tails for Infamy! Are you serious? Call Heads for Fame.
See Brother Man Dude live. He will take his cue from you. It’s about audience participation. Work out where to stand. Do you want serious music or novelty songs? Heads or Tails…Can’t decide? He’s happy to toss a coin. Serious music for Heads; a Novelty song for Tails.
It’s all about working Brother Man Dude out. Fame or Infamy. Make your call. Buy Fame or buy Infamy or just buy both - at gigs and selected record stores
brother man dude @ bang lasso, calypso bar (caxton st, paddington) sunday afternoon, feb 17 free entry.
brother man dude and sister mother lover have found a new lease of life and have been playing a lot lately. Also they have recently started rehearsing with julie faye who will add a 3rd voice to the blend. she has yet to be christened with a stage moniker/persona but that will happen when the time is right.
to celebrate their upcoming 2 week tour of the newcastle/sydney area in april and further shows around the country this year the brother is compiling a 2 cd retrospective of his 15 year song writing career. 'famous' will contain 15 of the more palatable easy on the ear examples of his songs; while 'infamous' will be more of a summary of his more confrontational/humourous work. also included on both cds will be brand new unreleased songs recently recorded and featuring the playing and singing of the sister mother lover.
don't miss the gig at calypso bar/cafe; its a great setting for a relaxing afternoon for people of all ages (kids always seem to enjoy themselves).
