Influences
It's really been my musical heroes that have influenced me - Trevor Horn, William Orbit, Vince Clarke have been pioneers in their time, and I can learn an awful lot from listening closely to the music they've made.
Bob Dylan is a fine, fine lyricist - I could only wish to be as incisive and clever as he.
Otherwise, I've taken inspiration from all the music I've heard and enjoyed - melody matters a lot to me, and I'm almost ashamed to say that I have always wanted to write a Perfect Pop Song!
Over the years, I've tinkered with musical instruments, from piano lessons when I was seven, to my first guitar in my teenage years; I have loads of recordings of my early stuff on cassette, but that's never going to make it on here, I'm afraid.
I've made stupid jingles for radio stations, and worked with a couple of bands - most recently being the marvellous Jude, and monster gratis my side project with Suzanne McKenzie's wonderful voice.
I've only ever performed 'live' once... an acoustic set in the basement of the BBC World Service's famous Bush House - who knows.. one day I might stand up in front of.. some people and have a go at singing and playing.
Hey, James.
It's good to know you, mate.
Keeping up with you via your blog (when I remember to stop by and take a peek).
Hope all is well with you and yours.
Cheers!
