Sounds Like
The theme music to a sitcom about the Whitlams, Ben Folds Five, Harry Connick Jr. and John Hindmarsh watching autumn leaves dance down Adelaide streets.
The Ides first came together in the autumn of 2004. Three years saw their graduation from jam sessions out the back of Brendan’s house to regular gigs around Adelaide, and two each of demos, radio interviews and NCBC finals passed by along the way. In February of 2007 they appeared in Carclew’s acoustic Off the Couch showcase.
Throughout the passing seasons, their style was refined as their repertoire grew. Jonno's dynamic percussion made a firm foundation for Brendan's melancholy keys, Mike's lilting acoustic guitar and Peri's edgy bass lines. It can be hard to define their genre – one Ide called it ‘sitcom-theme pop’ – but the Ides’ music is sometimes funky or rockin', sometimes moody, usually catchy and always lyrical.
The band’s emphasis is on songwriting, and they reflected on themes as grand as the state of the world, as private as a glance and as sincere as the love of a shoddy first car. Each song was intended to be the product of careful craftsmanship. Seasons change and autumn leaves fall, and the Ides knew they played acoustic music in an electric city, but that kind of authenticity is what they were all about.
The Ides decided to call it a day on June 22nd, 2007, in order to pursue other musical projects.

the good afternoons just listened again to the "governor hindmarsh" song. The piano riff and ba dups are just so cheery the sadness has gone. Humming that tune got me through some dark days. The gov will be so bitter sweet after. love from the good afternoons
