Influences
Every musician ever, including such notables as the Rolling Stones, Hank Williams Sr., Dave Weckl, Tony Levin, Led Zeppelin, Billy Cobham, Mozart, David Garibaldi, Rush, John Coltrane, Marillion, Gumby, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Bruce Campbell, etc...
Idiot Splendour was formed in 2002 in New York's Capital District - Albany, Schenectady Troy region.
Chris P helped start the band with bass player Chris Appel. They began doing acoustic gigs in coffeehouses but as the band morphed into a full-fledged rock band, Idiot Splendour began playing at clubs, bars, and even on
boats! Chris has brought many original songs to the band; in addition, he
has written a bunch of acoustic music which he performs once in a while.
Chris loves all kinds of music, and draws inspiration from great artists
in every genre - from Hank Williams to Beethoven, John Coltrane, the Rolling
Stones, and everything in between. Enamored with rock, right now he's
working on perfecting the natural tube-driven snarling Telecaster sound, and most days he's got some kind
of song playing in his head.
Marc Jackson started playing guitar when he was 27 and hasn't stopped. His dynamic vocal range and melodic guitar playing round out Idiot
Splendour. Marc also played trumpet in high school, however it wasn't
until 1987 with his experiences living in New Mexico that his music
career as a vocalist and guitarist began and has continued now for
over 14 years. He digs many styles of music thanks to his mom, dad,
his eight brothers and sisters along with playing with several excellent
musicians. Marc's motto: Live, Laugh, Learn, Love.
Ed Donohue began playing in his brother's band at age 6. Thirty years
later, the band finally called it quits but Ed wasn't ready to put away his
kit. So he joined Idiot Splendour in 2005.. It has allowed him to take his
creative passion in a whole new direction. Ed's drumming style has
been influenced and inspired by the likes of Billy Cobham, Dave Weckl,
and David Garibaldi. Ed has lived and worked in the Capital District all
his life and is hoping global warming will turn Albany into the next Miami.
Chris Appel has been a bass player in the Albany area for the past 22 years playing rock, pop, R&B, blues, progressive and acoustic music. He has
also been playing and recording in the NYC and Long Island area for the
past five years with Doctor Son and Big Wedge, with whom he recorded
two cd’s. A founding member of the band, Chris and his bandmates
incorporate many different kinds of music to make Idiot Splendour a
unique experience.
A new studio has opened in Schenectady. The former Cat Trax studio on Green St, is now owned and operated by James Krakat and Marcel Roberts. Professional equipment, a well designed group of rooms, and affordability will put this new studio at the top. James is a graduate of Full Sail, and has worked at Quad Studios in NYC. Marcel has produced many local artists. They offer a rehearsal room for $20 an hour with recording capability. Singular songs can be recorded or blocks of time can be secured to do a full album.
