BIOGRAPHY
We are a New England tech band. We will play your show and destroy. This is exactly what we all want to do with our lives. We appreciate all the kids who come out and see us. We do our best to put on an energetic live show and hope it shows. Jay always wears sandals, Erl always gets naked, Ryan always tells evereyone Dining is about Zombies, Gregg is always nice and Steve is always ridiculously attractive. Get into it.
SHOW REVIEW Excerpt from The Hartford Advocate review of If I Had Eyes:
"If I Had Eyes are the musical equivalent of the guy who took a hammer to Michelangelo..s Pietà: they..re iconoclastic spazzes who envision destruction as a creative act. They headlined a huge bill of hardcore and metal at The Oxbow Café, which is emerging as Hartford..s most promising venue for underground rock outside of The Webster. They blasted open their set with an homage to the Dillinger Escape Plan of yesteryear -- which is to say their lead singer spit fire. The parallel is no coincidence. If I Had Eyes are the state..s best tech-metal band next to Shroud of Turin .
Musically, their songs do little to meet the listener halfway. Only the most rabid metalheads will be able to decipher their knots and angles, let alone enjoy them. But just because If I Had Eyes are alienating, doesn..t mean they..re self-indulgent. Guitarist Gregg Schmitt and bassist Ren lean back against each other in a fit of showmanship. Singer Ryan LaCoss stalks across the entire dancefloor, pulling random members of the audience into orbit. They may be technically proficient, but they don..t want you to lean back with your arms crossed and ¨appreciate;¨ they want you to spazz out with them." (By Dan Barry on 6/8/06)
