Greetings,

There are some that have yet to understand what IFI Music is all about and I simply want to help you have a better understanding.

An analogy that I have come to use of late is to simply consider what “Sundance Institute” has done for Indie Film. Robert Redford established “Sundance Institute” over twenty-five years ago. Its primary mission was to make the public more aware of the alternative Indie Film Community. Now look at the popularity of Indie Film and how much more available it is to the public. There are now Indie Films that are competing for Oscars against Major Film productions. And there you have it.

The mission of IFI Music is not to promote each artist individually, but to promote the Indie Music Community as a whole to the public. To create programs and showcases that will draw the public to view Indie Music a lot more seriously and begin searching it out for music to listen to. More public awareness and support of the Indie Music Community will translate into more radio airplay, television appearances and media coverage. But we have first got to get the publics attention and that can only be done by producing these programs and showcases.

The one major factor that “Sundance Institute” had going for it was the celebrity and finances of Robert Redford. We do not have that at this time, BUT that does not mean we do not have to give up on our mission and just lay down and die. That is the reason we have established the Unity Campaign within our mission.

If the Indie Music Community would USE the established voice of IFI Music and unite under its mission, it could become a force far larger than the major music industry could dream of. There are far more Indie Artists and Organizations out there than there are major label companies, we have just not made the effort to unite amongst our selves so that we can speak with one LOUD voice. If we would combine our resources and knowledge, we would be able to totally alter the music industry scene. This will not come without effort, work, patience and diligence in believing that what we are doing WILL make a difference.

A few weeks ago I sent out an email about financial support. Again, we are not asking the artists to send in money, what we are asking you to do is simply go to a handful of your fans and encourage them to support an organization that is trying to make a difference in getting the Indie Music Community heard by giving a hundred dollars each or less or even more to its mission! Yes, that requires trust on your part to know that we are going to achieve what we have set out to do. We can provide references and legal documentation of the legitimacy of IFI Music as a 501c3 non-profit organization. We have now even established a legal Chapter of IFI Music in Canada, based out of Toronto. We are growing and moving forward but we need to know that you as the Indie Music Community BELIEVE in what we are doing. We need to hear from you and in turn need YOU to help create financial support for our work. That is what true community is, the need for each other, not for just one side to work while the other waits for something to happen. We both, working together, can make this happen.
