"GAKU"
One of the Chinese symbols for the word "joy" also means "music."
This synonymy rings true with everyone who loves music. Even if a piece is extremely sad we feel joy in the ability to experience and express such powerful emotion. We have a profound need to share these feelings with other people, and such communication gives our lives meaning.

"I can honestly say that I've never heard another band outside of The Roots interpret hip hop better. I usually find bands that try to do it but it's flawed on so many levels but they just got the sound exactly right and translated it perfectly."

"I heard the future here and now -- let's call it the present! -- in the form of trumpeter Igmar Thomas" as quoted by ArtsJournal.com. Igmar captures the timelessness of jazz and the swagger of hip-hop through his visionary music. This San Diego native is an accomplished and highly skilled trumpeter, composer, arranger, and bandleader. He picked up the trumpet at 12 and immediately displayed innate talent and discipline. Igmar began defining his own style as he played alongside legends such as Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, Al Grey, Roy Hargrove, Jon Faddis, Ralph Peterson, and Terri Lynne Carrington, Beres Hammond, AG (from Showbiz n AG, DITC). In 2006 he graduated from Berklee College of Music where he studied on a full scholarship. While attending school in Boston he met many of the players that currently make up his sextet, Igmar Thomas & The Cypher. Now based in New York City where Igmar performs regularly with The Cypher and also is a highly recommended player for major acts. Igmar opened for acts like Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Heiroglyphics, Collie Buddz, Roy Hargrove & GURU, Mos Def, and also recorded with Wyclef Jean, John Legend, Jim Jones, Terence Howard, and many more. Igmar's musicianship and natural skill has already impacted the scene and will continue to flourish as he introduces his music to the world.
