1gnition were formed in May of 2003 at London’s sleaziest east end night club ‘On The Rocks’ when Ali Love met Marcus J Knight. They quickly realised they had a lot of mutual interests: fast lane living and 80s black American soul music with the attitude of LA's finest, Motley crew!
From the start they knew that they wanted a dance floor based sound with a retro pop edge steering clear of the much-repeated sample based dance culture whilst retaining the toughness and tightness of today's dance music production. To do this, Eon, electro techno producer extraordinaire and close friend of Marcus J's was brought in. With this strong rhythmic foundation they set about recording original songs using live bass, vocals, analogue synths and guitars all sprinkled with live string and horn sections.
With influences ranging from Chic, Prince, Kraftwerk and Kool and the Gang, 1gnition received rapturous acclaim for their first two 7” releases, 'Nightflight/Planet69’ & ‘Daddys Girl/1gnition FM’ which have both featured special guests including none other than the legendary guitarist Simon Bartholomew who is better known for his association with the Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai.
The first official release ‘Love Is War’ on legendary Kingsize Records with a Chicken Lips remix became an underground classic in 2004/2005 and was one of the main tracks featured in Ibiza superclub DC10 and was a monster smash in Australia with remixes from Hussle Recordings with remixes from Goodwill and Mr T and Mr Timothy Remix. The follow-up hit, ‘Airtight’, featuring Punks Jump Up remix, was also another club classic which featured A1 radio play in Belgium as well as other territories. 2006 saw 1gnition re-release the original 7” ‘Planet 69’ on Adrift Records, featuring Williams’ Remix.
The last release in the summer of 2007 (recorded in 2004/2005) was ‘Secret Sunday Lover’ Released on the 'Love Is War Music' label, set up by Marcus J Knight. With remixes by edit-godfather Greg Wilson, Ilija Rudman, DJ Sing and Marcus J Knight and 1gnition Lovers’ Beat Remix.
A cover version of 'Secret Sunday Lover' was released by Ali Love as his 1st solo single on Sony/Columbia shortly afterwards.
