I Got Da Beat Productions's Interests
|
| General | Short Term, we will producing solely theater with one mainstage and one reading series every season. Interested in new playwrights who would like to submit their work to be considered for a reading and possible workshop.
We are also currently cultivating our Arts-In-Education program to educate the urban youth that there is a life and career in the arts; It doesn't have to be just a hobby.
Long Term, IGDB Productions will be venturing into the worlds of Music, Film, Fine Art and Publishing. | | Music | ARTISTIC: Art in America has reached a breaking point where we, as a community, can either continue to exploit the facets available to us or revolutionize the craft by taking the risk to expand the boundaries that have become widely accepted. I Got Da Beat Productions limitlessly pursues the latter by concentrating on the endless possibilities of Theater through marrying documentary-style art, multi-media, spoken word, visual art and musical composition as well as cultivating innovative and stimulating artistic talents.
CHARITY: Each of our seasons culminates in a main stage production tackling a social and/or political issue pertinent to our current state of affairs. To do our part in copiously serving this cause, each season, one charity is selected which we feel most actively champions for the issue on hand. At season’s end, this charity receives a no-strings donation of 10% of all profits from that season’s projects.
| | Movies | PLAYWRIGHT'S LAB READING SERIES: We are on a campaign to find the most powerful passionate voices possible creating the most unique pieces of theatrical art. We have already established a steady stream of playwright submissions from local universities as The New School for Drama and New York University. In addition, I Got Da Beat Productions has also launched a very successful internet campaign with both allowing us the exposure to playwrights both new and established.
Through these submissions, we regularly present these new works and concepts in a year round reading series. Once a script is chosen, the playwright has the opportunity to work closely with a dramaturge, the reading’s director and the company’s artistic director to further hone in on and fine tune the universal vision of the script. Throughout this process, fellow company members and select members of the community attend regularly scheduled “closed” presentations to discuss the progress and relevance of the work.
I Got Da Beat Productions then presents these pieces to the public as a formal reading. Here, the public has the opportunity to attend “talk back” sessions with the entire creative staff, thus encouraging further collaboration with the artists in the finalization of the scripts.
All plays and musicals involved in the readings are considered for a subsequent year’s Main Stage production.
Five-year goal is to establish a core company of resident playwrights and directors who are dedicated to bringing I Got Da Beat Productions to the next level we will rise to.
| | Television | FALL MAIN STAGE PRODUCTION: In an effort to offer our community the finest theatrical experience, I Got Da Beat Productions is embodied by New York’s finest designers, actors and artists all working together for one common goal…push the limits of artistic creativeness to unthinkable realms. We do not simply present an edgy, entertaining production. We utilize, to the fullest extent possible, all the facilities of art to achieve a production quality that challenges, inspires, moves and engulfs the audience into a complete experience of visceral and emotional creativeness.
Five-year goal is to increase the number of Main Stage productions to two shows per season.
| | Books | ARTS-IN-EDUCATION: Education through art has historically been the most auspicious means of social outreach concerning political and social circumstances directly affecting the public’s lives. Nothing we do as a company will bring us closer to achieving our goals than educating our youth; After all, it is they who will keep the energies and traditions of art alive.
In an ongoing effort to give all children, especially the underprivileged, the same joy we all have found in living a life in the arts, I Got Da Beat Productions offers workshops, classes, performances and educational residency programs throughout the metropolitan area. Most of the youth we reach are at an age where serious life decisions concerning their future are beginning to take shape. Through classes in dance, acting, writing and theater history, we feel it is vitally important to make them understand that art need not just be a hobby but a career in the arts is equally as viable as one in any other more widely accepted profession.
Headlining our Arts-in-Education program is an original show entitled That’s A Career?!?! This hour-long fusion of dialogue, improvisation, poetry and audience participation educates children of those endless opportunities available in choosing art, in any form, as a career.
Five-year goal is to have a permanent residency foundation in the metro area school district and to establish ourselves with the New York and New Jersey Board of Education.
| | Heroes | Everyone who risked everything so we may be able to do the same now. |

Who I'd like to meet:
I Got Da Beat Productions was created in the Spring of 2006 out of a desire to reclaim the responsibilities artists have to educate the community through our art. Our inaugural production was the acclaimed Aven’U Boys by Frank Pugliese at the Royal Theater.
With this first production, I Got Da Beat Productions began to establish itself as a company that leads by example and is poised to become a strong voice of the community in the years to come.
We'd like to meet anyone who is tired and frustrated with the current state and direction of theater in NYC and deeply concerned with the state of our world. What we are building is a community willing to bring to the public the serious issues that we tend to only whisper about. Rather than creating a platform for the public, we want to incorporate it and it's voice as one to represent our cares and concerns. Just drop a note if you'd like to be involved.
