IGwAD is the brainchild of Erik Hoversten, part-time rock musician and full-time graduate student, and it came into existence in January 2002. In its original avatar, it consisted of Erik, Sundar Srinivasan (the Indian Guy) and Mike Boyer, trumpet player extraordinaire. Sadly, this version was only able to stick around for one Open Mic performance.
It wasn't until November of the same year that Erik and Sundar, dubbing themselves IGwAD 2.0, started work on a cover of I Think We're Alone Now, which went on to become the first of six songs recorded for their February 2003 release aptly titled, The Valentine's Day Massacre.
In the summer of 2003, Erik and Sundar teamed up with guitar/bass player and Space Telescope Science Institute data analyst Gabe Brammer, and together with Kevin "Freedom" France, started playing at Frazier's on The Avenue every Monday as part of Open Mic Night, under the name IGwAD 3.0. Live recordings from these Mondays resulted in the February 2004 release, B.o.O.M., which also features the vocal stylings and violin playing of Kuenley Chiu, off-and-on IGwAD member.
After Gabe decided to take up graduate studies in Astronomy at Yale, Erik, Kevin and Sundar kept playing as IGwAD 4.0. The limited January 2005 release, Last Christmas and Everything After catalogs some of the early performances of this avatar of the band. Through most of 2005, IGwAD was graced by the presence of keyboard talent Wenji "Jane" Song, another honorary member from the Far East. (The only one, not counting New Jersey as the Far East)
Erik, Kevin and Sundar are astronomy graduate students at Hopkins. Kevin now goes by Doctor Freedom, having actually finished up with his studies.
The band's name is due to Erik, and as he frequently explains, it has to do with the fact that the band has an Indian Guy, and a couple of good looking American Dreams. (Kevin "Freedom" France was one of Baltimore Magazine's hottest singles of 2003)

IGwad also could stand for If Guys want A Date (they start a rock band)... howsabout... Invite Groins with Alternate Dribbles... but I have no idea what that might mean... but I still think you should write the song.
Anyway, I'm honoured to be called a "Friend of IGwAD."
