On the fall of 1999 when Arto Tolonen(drums) and Mikko Nissinen(guitar, vocals), who were old
friends to each other from their teenage years, needed something real to be done. After completing their military service, both in the age of 20, decided to form the hardest rocking band with extremely heavy and intensive sound that ever came out of Sotkamo village, in the Mid-East Finland. In the beginning was born non-compromising WC/HC-three-piece-group, Anal Beat with Pete Korhonen in Bass. Under this hilariously idiotic name they did one single gig with brutal and messy result.
However, at this point guys werent quite satisfied with their inside-joke band. They needed something better to be done. In the end, their music ended up turning into something wicked, pretentiousless, murderous, Twisted but still catchy at the same time. Nissinen was somehow forced to take the role as a lead vocalist while taking care of the riffage at the same time. Due to the fact that in Sotkamo village there propably would not be anyone around at the time who could make it as a throat-man of the band. Nissinen, Tolonen and Korhonen felt like taking their band to the second level. The place where the band rehearsed was Tolonens parents storage.
Then the serious rehearsing was about to begin despite the fact that Tolonens neighbours were not "quite" delighted about hobby of the youngsters next house right, and were actually just about to threat guys with charge to court for accusing them of disturbing their home peace with their raw music and noise pollution during the rehearsal. (After a while, the band had to find other place to rehearse. Off guys went and took their gear to Sointupesä (the local youth music community center in Sotkamo back then.)
Those days they were heavily influenced by twisted, Finnish alternative Rock/Metal bands such as Kotiteollisuus and Mana Mana. One important thing to mention here about IKUINEN VAIVAs lyrical decision is that on those days, there were not many bands around like IKUINEN VAIVA, that where singing in Finnish and playing that hard and intense metal-mixed in-your-face-music. In fact, it was not just a case of choosing the language of their vocal expression, more likely Guys felt it much more natural to have their message spat out in their mother tongue instead of any foreign language, which would have been, well, a bit pretentious.
IKUINEN VAIVA means somewhat Harm Eternal, invented by Tolonen in Sauna during the rehearsal days of the first demo "Kootut Selitykset" (=Compiled Explanations). Harm Eternal not only in its wicked psychological context, describes also the rocky road the forming of a band had been on on its years with line up changes and also that the trial to make it up for a really good name for a band was a real Harm Eternal-So IKUINEN VAIVA WAS BORN IN LATE 2000!! ...
IKUINEN VAIVA built their first songs during summer-autumn 2000 and -winter 2000-2001 in Vuokatti and went to tape them to the west coast, BRR studios, Raahe in the early 2001. In the studio, guys ripped up 7 loud, groovy, bull dozer-powered HC-metal songs with rhythm guitarist Seppo Kononen in line up. Nissinen played rhythm guitar and bass. These recordings became IKUINEN VAIVAs first demo-"Kootut Selitykset" (Compiled Explanations). The first demo got some promising reviews for ex. on Finnish rock-magazine Soundi by Marko Saynekoski writing: "IKUINEN VAIVA sounds surprisingly powerful, wicked and mean band with doomsday mood in their lyrics, even their demo is far too long for a demo." But time went on...
After the first demo, IKUINEN VAIVAs musical direction had been turning into cross-over style punk, hard core and metal mixed hard rock. This came out naturally by Nissinen and Tolonen who started to write new songs with more catchy and rocking riffs and melodies with less overdriven brutal HC-chaos. On August 2002 IKUINEN VAIVA went back to BRR-studios with Ville Saastamoinen in some guitars. Band released "Iltapukuheimo" (Evening Dress Tribe) -EP late 2002. -Just at the moment they split up because of built-up tensions, frustration and exhaustion inside the band. Guys in the band also had to move to study in different corners of Finland which didnt help the situation at all. Nissinen had gotten into some another music projects as LONGKILLAH (later known as a publishing Company owned by Nissinen) and AKBAR which were back then more easier to Nissinen to get on with.
But three years passed on. Slowly it came the right time to gather and re-activate IKUINEN VAIVA in 2005. Nissinen had moved to Kirkkonummi (Countryside 20 miles west from Helsinki) and Tolonen to Rovaniemi (northern Finland). The Re-Union came up just by Nissinen and Tolonen getting their usual thing done: getting back together on holidays to Sotkamo, jamming and tracking demos, sending tapes of new riffs and song ideas to each others and then on, composing new I.V. material. This is basically the way how IKUINEN VAIVA reunited in all its simplicity. The result of all this was their 11-song DEBUT FULL LENGTH ALBUM named ”Kuolleista”(Of the Dead/Back From the Dead). The album was released in Finland and in Europe 4:th of July 2007 by SRAMU tm and LONGKILLAH ltd. The album is co-distributed by Firebox ltd.-a Finnish metal record company.

inspired, more mature and meaner metal-punk-rock band with brand new skin.
On summer 2008 drummer Tolonen moved from Rovaniemi to Espoo and the core of I.V.- Tolonen and Nissinen had a chance to work actively again for a bit of time in Southern Finland. At this point the band recruited Sami Haarahiltunen-Tolonens old high-school classmate to take responsebility of playing bass. Guitarist Niina Korhonen, who had been playing some gigs in I.V. after Kuolleista- album, was also in line up those days. IKUINEN VAIVA managed to wrote plenty of really good songs from early summer 2008 to beginning of 2009. The Band worked on new material and also spend patiently time by recording demo versions of these new tunes.

On late April 2009 IKUINEN VAIVA hit the famous Seawolf Studios, Sveaborg/ Suomenlinna, Helsinki (the studio where bands and artists like Hanoi Rocks, Blake, Ismo Alanko, The Flaming Sideburns, Havana Black, The Black League, Pelle Miljoona have recorded etc.) and Klemetin Studio, Lahti with old Sotkamo based guy co-producer/engineer, Arto Klemetti to record bands ten-song-follower for their debut, "Kuolleista"-album. This time new I.V. -songs seem to be deeper, more balanced, heavier with richer compositions that also include multiple dimensions and power than the material IKUINEN VAIVA has ever before managed to write. The production of the becoming I.V. -album will also be professional.
October 2009: Niina Korhonen has been replaced In IKUINEN VAIVA by a Hard Riffing, intense guitarist, Vesa Lahteinen. Ikuinen Vaiva has now (between April-September 2009) succesfully recorded their heaviest and most beautiful album so far to be named "CHARMI". At the moment, mixing of CHARMI is in the process in Klemetin studio, Lahti. Definitely, it is going to be a ground breaking album some way. The release of the definitely best IKUINEN VAIVA- album so far will be around March 2010. So ladies and lads, please hold on. - The guys promise this is going to consist really good stuff! Here are some raw-mix tastes of whats to come into a masterpiece of all Finnish rock albums released in the 21:st century. NO CRAP.
