In high school I was severly depressed and suicidal but didn't feel right about taking meds. Thats about the time I picked up the pen. Poetry has since been the daily dose of serenity my doctors claimed could not be sought without drugs. By melding writing (a concrete form of healing) into music (a more abstract form of expression), I found a release from the rising tensions of daily life and a neutralization of the chemical imbalances in my brain.
The F-holes in my back represent not only a tribute to my musical roots, but the fact that any specific instrument does not in itself create music. A soul must act as that medium that allows one to realize the infinite nature of music itself. Therefore we are all the true instruments/
I recently discovered my passion for electronic music and began to DJ and to study digital sound production. In the process, I found myself fusing electronic music with strange organic sounds in attempts to blur the lines between genres.
Stepping away from reading notes off a page, I started jamming with a project called Dharma Kaya (meaning "study of self"). This allowed me to experiment with improv playing. However, this past summer, I picked up the acoustic guitar and in doing so, found my most resonant voice yet. "~Ilanamous~" comes (quite blatantly) from the concept of being anonymous, as I feel my musical voice is so, in the sense that my music is simply a single representation of the infinite creative channel each of us is capable of realizing within ourselves. Honestly I don't believe in classifying music as "good" or "bad" or "genius" or "simple". It is all an expression and should not be judged upon human, ergo cultural biases.
I've never been able to fit into many boxes and that includes genre boxes. My creative goal in my lifetime is to transcend these musical boxes and put out a CD in every genre, whether it exists yet or not...I feel my music serves me as the most clarity-inducing method to voicing controversial ideas, unidentifiable answers and unanswerable questions.
