She has Morocco in her blood, Paris in her heart and music in her soul. Ilhame (aptly meaning “Inspiration” in Arabic) always knew that music would be her constant muse. Born in the 17th District of Paris, Ilhame’s first musical experience was alongside her older sister, having innocent fun. As a little girl she loved to imitate famous musicians, singing songs of mostly soul, funk and R&B stars such as Luther Vandross, Rose Royce and Bill Withers. In grade school Ilhame’s music teacher noticed her natural talent as a vocalist and encouraged her to pursue her love of music. Thus, it was merely by pure instinct that Ilhame followed suit, followed her soul, and followed music.
Supported by DJ Fun (of Saian Supa Crew fame), a long-time friend and producer/sound engineer, Ilhame decided it was time to finance her own project and placed her career in her own hands. Ilhame decided it was time to record an album. In 2000, a meeting brought forth a continuing collaboration with Max Valetudie a hip-hop/R&B/French Reggae producer (NTM, Raggasonic, Princess Erika, Tonton David). Lyricists and musicians such as Pascal Hospital, Marion Michau and rap artist Kodjo have also lent their talents to Ilhame’s album. In 2005, Ilhame traveled to Los Angeles, to record a major part of her album, an experience which furthered her desire to continue making music. As Ilhame states, “I live, eat and sleep music. This is what I want to do. This is what I love to do”
Ilhame’s first album is a true representation of her vision and talent. In addition to recording and spending most of her time in studios, Ilhame has had many shows not only throughout France but in New York and Los Angeles. She has sold out shows at “Le Reservoir” and “La Scene” both popular concert venues in Paris. She’s opened shows for Erykah Badu at the “Nice Jazz Festival” and toured with “The Roots” as there opening act throughout France in 2007. She has also opened for Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson in Los Angeles as well. She has also been the opening act for “Dwele” and “Van Hunt”. Ilhame has definitely shown that she can hold her own with these influential singers and musicians.
Also, in addition to touring and recording her album, Ilhame has also recorded a cover of Bob Marley’s “Waiting in Vain” translating the lyrics into French and Arabic for a Bob Marley compilation album. She has worked with “Nicolay” from the “Foreign Exchange on a track titled” For you”. Ilhame has also had the chance to work with many influential and world renowned producers, not only in France but throughout the United States. She has most recently worked with “Shafiq Husayn” from “SA-RA” fame, and also known for working and producing Erykah Badu’s newest album “New Amerykah”. Shafiq has also worked with artist such as Georgia Anne- Muldrow and Bilal. The new songs that Ilhame has recorded with Shafiq, show Ilhame’s true passion while she sings. The songs have been appropriately titled “French Kiss” which Shafiq has produced and “Big Pooh” from Little Brother fame has been featured on and also “My World”, which allow Ilhame’s fans to get to know a little bit more about her.
Her voice is poignant, sultry, spirited and rich. She mourns of love lost, offers hope and sings with candor. You feel what she feels in every word she sings. It is unavoidable-Ilhame’s fierce personality shines throughout the notes. Her voice resonates with the listener. What will become of Ilhame- a young determined woman whose talent shines through her smile? Only time will tell. With a promising debut album, and an even more promising future, the little girl who once imitated her favorite soul and R&B artists could very well be the musician fans will eagerly emulate. It isn’t only about the music; it’s about making a difference in people’s lives and changing the world one song at a time. Ilhame is ready! Ready for her dreams to materialize.

Sometimes when i look around, all i see is misery, despair, frustration and pain...
Then, i close my eyes, take a couple deep breaths, RELAX...And ask myself, "WHAT IF all I saw was what I WANTED TO SEE?" Then, I open my eyes. I see the sun, I see the blue sky, I see my girls smiling back at me, I see life...
And then, lo and behold, I see nothing but OPPORTUNITY...
