The Illawarra Folk Festival has been held annually in since 1985 and is one of NSW's premier music festivals and a major multi cultural event for Australia organized totally be volunteers.
It is presented by the Illawarra Folk Club which presents regular concerts in the Illawarra / Wollongong area. See the listing here.
Home to the Festival is the City of Wollongong, one of the most culturally diverse communities in Australia with many of its residents born outside Australia and with many languages other than English spoken in the home.
Cultural activities have produced a vibrant artistic community and the Illawarra Folk Festival has showcased them since the beginning.
The Festival was held in the village of Jamberoo for 20 years but moved to Bulli in the northern suburbs of Wollongong in 2006.
The 25th festival is to be held from 14-17 January 2010 with over 100 acts, 500 performers, 11 venues at the historic Bulli Showground at Slacky Flat, only 1 hour south of Sydney.
2010 Festival Performerapplications are now being accepted and will close 31 July 2009.
