ILLEGAL kru (biography) :In the northeastern part of Slovenia, city of Maribor to be exact, now quite a time ago (in 1998) a young DJ (and later producer) named Markoman discovered the deep and dirty sounds of jungle drum and bass (JDB), by the time not familiar to the Slovenian massive. First he discovered the Aphrodite gig in Austrian Graz and their local records shop, and then he discovered the magic vinyl sides playing them at home and on Maribor’s student radio MARS. First events where he DJ-ed in Markoman’s first residency Pekarna were combined with hip-hop and the second was named “Illegal Life” (Markoman afterwards explained that with that name he tried to describe the “streets sounds of urban culture) Then his co-organiser bugged him to think of a good name for parties and Markoman shortened it to ILLEGAL. The kru dripped slowly; at one DJ workshop DJ Hose approached to Markoman, after a while they seeked for an MC and invited MC Ezy-G, later also MC Hobosapiens, DJ Raa and VJ MiBre. First parties with foreign guests were called “Digital Jungle” and have hosted Deeprooted, MC Navigator, Jayrock, A-Sides, Dean Saster and Trife.Life. After this set of events and time Markoman has moved to Slovenia capitol city Ljubljana and re-formed the kru by accepting two new DJ’s, DJ Josser and DJ PlankTon, and the private journalist & promo force dr.um First new residency in Ljubljana was club SubSub and the first party to remember was given in spring of 2002, when ]EIB[ Bad Company first carried away the Slovenian audience. A set of events in season 2002703 placed ILLEGAL kru among the top organizers of underground parties, bringing the artist like Rascal&Klone, Kemal, Paul B., Aquasky, Junglistic Sistaz, Sage, Giana Brothers, Concord Dawn, Adam F. and MC MC and closing the season down with our good friend Bulletproof. In the summer of 2003 DJ's of ILLEGAL kru (Markoman & PlankTon) played at EXIT festival in Serbia and on biggest Slovenian festival Rock Otocec. ILLEGAL kru also has a tradition to make an open-air allnighter named Brejkpiknik in a roadhouse Ex-Willy's Bar near small village Ro,,inj and which is every year attended by hundreds of hard JDB lovers. ILLEGAL also did a radio show called »Rewind!« for a season on Radio Student in Ljubljana. After two events in season 2003/04 (with Ill.Skillz and John B.) the kru received a offer to become resident JDB kru from another club in Ljubljana, K4. After the transfer the Digital Jungle phase arrose to the highest level and gave a season to be remembered my years and establishing the ILLEGAL kru as the leading Slovenian JDB force: Pendulum (in 2003!), J-Majik, return of Aphrodite, Klone, Zinc, Andy C. and Goldie for the end of the season and Nexxi and Mackie on our Brejkpiknik. In the same year of 2004 Markoman released his first vinyl record on G2 label with tracks Mina's Tirith/Dope. Until the end of 2004 we hosted Mackie again, then Twisted Individual and The Upbeats in December, followed by Ed Rush, John B., Black Sun Empire and D-Bridge with MC Tali. In the same year another fine DJ & producer joined ILLEGAL kru, his name to be watched – DJ Tsunami. In the summer of 2005 another smashing vinyl came out from Markoman, this time .. label including the tracks Spaced out/Dark Wizard which MixMag declared for second best drum and bass vinyl of the month with this explanation: »Both tracks here display an originality that is lacking elsewhere right now. Spaced Out is trance, with fantastic synth-bass that unfolds and turns itself inside out on the breakdown. Dark Wizard switches things up, unleashing distorted bass thumps that fans of heavy metal will no doubt headbang to. Two tunes of varying flavours but equal quality!!! « Season 2005/06 has brought us less parties but always on same level and a new name for our events “Digital Dungeon”: Noisia and Future Prophecies beside a lot of smaller parties with ILLEGAL kru and a floor in our favourite club at Ljubljana’s Metelkova squat called Channel 0, where we re-hosted Concord Dawn and Cell D. When we returned to K4 to make another smashing season, it was opened by Gridlok and following Vicious Circle. By the end of the year the concept of »Double Digital Dungeon« was improved and in January of 2006 first event, presenting Temper D. and Masheen was a smasher. They were followed by combination of Spor and The Sect and ended season ‘06/’07 with Identity kru’s BTK from Brazil and Nocturnal. Also Markoman and Tsunami performed at this years EXIT festival and gave a thrilling performance at the Happynovisad Stage for two thousand heads in massive. But two of best moments are linked with production skills that Markoman and Tsunami synergize to new level of JDB. They have developed some astonishing tunes that have impressed Temper D. to use two of the hottest pieces in his recent sets and even opening one three-deck mix with their track Plutonium 3. Soon the smashing track was signed for a vinyl to Conflicted label and another one Ugly Motherfucker (also promoted by Temper D.) to American label OnSet Audio for a digital release.
