Rob Reid y Su Papagayo Automatico (a.k.a. Digitech Jamman)
Influences
Caetano Veloso, Pablo Simon, Groovechild, The Police, Kristin Mueller Trio, Lata Mangeshkar, Francis Bebey, Tusk (the Fleetwood Mac album nobody else liked), Jolie Holland, Led Zeppelin, the entire Harold Washington library world music collection, Old Town School of Folk Music, and the Rough Guide world music series
Inspired by an eclectic and international range of songwriters including Francis Bebey, Caetano Veloso, Paul Simon, and Andrew Bird, Rob incorporates various world music genres into a style uniquely his own. Layering percussion, vocal harmonies, guitar, and kitchenware on a looping station, he tells stories about such things as automated check-out clerks, penguins dancing amidst melting ice caps, and thirty foot tall seahorses made out of plaster.
Lacking basic driving skills and completely devoid of road sense, Rob's touring is typically limited to public transit accessible venues in Chicago or along Amtrak lines. Occasionally, he often finds his way as a stowaway hiding under a guitar in the vehicles of traveling acts such as Them Damn Kids.
Rob has also played as the kitchenware drummer with The Hump Night Thumpers, and the all-white Mexican holiday band, Los Gringos Cantandos.

Hola Rob! Taylor sent out a message asking as many of us as possible to be at the 10:30 dance class, because he can't be there...so I just wanted to pass along the msg....didn't have your cell #, and couldn't remember which email was yours, hence myspace....nice music, btw.
Hey Rob, Just got your message now, man, that's a bummer to hear about Winds Cafe. I wish I had made it out to Town Hall this week, but I'll be there next Monday if you're down. Hit me up!
It was so nice to hear you too! I enjoyed your whole presentation. sorry I missed the WINDS open mic. I had to work pretty early this morning. Is it every Thursday or just the last of the month? hope to see you again soon! -abt
