illuminatus are one Spaniard, one German, one Italian and one English gent. They deal in expansive soundscapes, razor-sharp dynamics and no-nonsense melodic song-writing. For illuminatus there exists no scene; no bandwagon; no fashion war.
The debut album, 'The Wrath Of The Lambs', was released on Monday, 26 May 2008, via Ant Hill Records (Panic Cell / Adema / Screamin' Lords / Speed Theory). The album has gained the attention of the UK music press, with great reviews in Kerrang!, Metal Hammer and countless online webzines. Tracks from the album have also gained airplay on Bruce Dickinson's BBC6 Rock Show, and the band has been playlisted on TotalRock Radio, gaining regular airplay on rotation.
The band’s touring history includes the UK leg of Ministry's final world tour (C-U-LaTour) in May/June 2008 and My Ruin’s UK and Ireland tour (Religiosi Tour) in October 2008.
In the summer of 2007 illuminatus stormed to the finals of Famecast, an international talent showcase featuring hundreds of bands from around the world. The band were flown out to Austin, Texas where they performed a high-energy set to a television audience which was broadcast live to millions of people, earning the band unprecedented exposure in the United States and beyond.
Following their collaborations on previous EPs with producers Harvey Birrell (Therapy?, Ministry) and Pete 'Pee-Wee' Coleman (AC/DC, Paradise Lost), the music of illuminatus has already drawn comparisons to bands such as Anathema, Paradise Lost, Deftones and Cult of Luna, earning the band significant acclaim and respect from all sections of the national and international music press, whilst gaining particularly glowing reviews from Germany, France and Scandinavia for their unique brand of melodic and powerful music.
With The Wrath Of The Lambs now on nationwide release through Anthill Records, illuminatus continue to roll out their War Machine throughout 2009, having just been confirmed as main support for the 10-day UK tour with Breed 77 and Susperia in May. In addition, the band is also in the process of writing new material for their follow-up album, aimed for release later this year.
PRESS
"as fine a debut album as you're likely to hear from a bunch of metallic upstarts all year." Metal Hammer
"This is serious music for serious people. It's progressive rock but comparable more to the likes of Anathema or even, at a stretch, Oceansize. Illuminatus have built these ominous and grand movements slowly, developing their art on the road over many years. The result is seething alt rock with a creative soul." Kerrang!
"Melodic, atmospheric, powerful, the foursome have been on the edge of something special for ages. Now debut album "The Wrath of the Lambs" threatens to make them heroes for 2008. Get excited now"
RockSound, February 2008
"some of the most beautiful, moving music I've heard since last witnessing Anathema live"
