Formed in 2002, this young up and coming south Minneapolis trio of word smiths is captivating the scene by storm by forcing many of the older groups in the Twin Cities to step their game up or get out. Their combination of lyrics, skill and showmanship is revitalizing the Twin Town Scene. With production from some of the most prominent producers in Minnesota, Illuminous 3 is the ideal example of the new Twin Cities sound.
Mavin MC has been creating music and kicking freestyles since elementary. His dream of becoming a musician began when his parents bought him a karaoke machine. He fell in love with it immediately, spending many hours keeping himself and others entertained with freestyles, beatboxing, and pretend radio shows. Music has always played a big role in Mav's life. In elementary he learned to play the clarinet and trumpet, and eventually started experimenting with hip hop beats early into high school. After saving funds from his first job, he bought an MPC2000XL, and since then has been making bangers for BSP. Purchasing the MPC' was only the first of many home studio investments. He now owns his own studio, and records regularly. Currently, he's learning new production techniques, and writing new material for future projects. As far as emceeing goes, he couldn't be more comfortable with his style and voice, however, he still pushes himself to become a better artist overall.
Born in Chicago, raised in Minneapolis Freez wrote his first rhyme in eight grade. After seeing his older brother's reaction to what he wrote, it was clear that he wanted a career in hip hop, not just for fame, but to prove he had real talent. When high school started, Freez stepped in with one goal, win battles. Determined to get that same reaction his brother gave him, he quickly took over the high school battle scene, and went on to win larger competitions. After earning respect from the battle crowd, Freez focused a lot of his energy on polishing his songwriting capabilities, however, he still enjoys ripping emcees in a battle. By this time Freez, Mavin and Franz had already formed illuminous 3, the crew that made it possible for Freez to take music to the next level. Since offered their first show by fellow Chosen Few member Toki Wright, Freez has been rocking shows and meeting some of the biggest names in hip hop.
Born and raised in South Minneapolis, FranzDiego.com has always been obsessed with expression and freewill. In his younger years he found solace and comfort within hip hop and the culture it provides. His interests have always been vast and convictions always genuine and these are the very things that he always tries to bring out through the music. Through his allegiance with Illuminous 3, FranzDiego.com has been able to create and contribute to a brand new Minneapolis sound and for this he is always grateful. One thing Franz would like you to know is that he loves you, even if you don't love him.
