R Moose Jackson:
ArtSpot Productions and Mondo Bizarro present Loup Garou, a new environmental performance that explores the deep interconnectedness between land and culture in Louisiana. The outdoor performance opens at sunrise on October 8 in the abandoned fields of City Park's old East Golf Course [map]. Showings are Thursdays at sunrise (7am) and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 5pm through October 25.
Every half hour, Louisiana loses a football field’s worth of wetlands to the Gulf of Mexico. Six major hurricanes in the last four years have exacerbated an already dire situation. What will become of Louisiana's rich cultural traditions and industries as the land that has nurtured them disappears?
Written by Raymond "Moose" Jackson, directed by Kathy Randels, and designed by Jeff Becker, Loup Garou features Nick Slie in a reprise of his tour de force portrayal of the mythical werewolf in ArtSpot's 2006 piece Beneath the Strata/Disappearing. Part performance, part ritual, part howl to the world about southeast Louisiana’s plight, Loup Garou sings a song of love and hope for our precarious homeland.
Presented In collaboration with the Gulf Restoration Network and

So easy to slip upon us the husk of those who have passed before. Floated through the open door; old loves, old dreams, young fencing masters, slaves, quadroons. So many sunk, drunk on nectars, from the flowing french vines, the full mooned mists festooning the mansions, live oaks. We walk softly, then as now never was this a genteel town. We hardly know in our inebriate passions that we are alive, how much less, then should we feel when tedious blood has seeped from our veins but go on walking through the gaslit streets, carriage drivers tilt their caps, to the river and her dark embrace.
To the river, then. Forever and ever, amen.
He Of The House's very first (of many) compilation. Nineteen tracks from twenty artists, the end result of which is possibly one of the most diverse compilations I've ever heard. From soft spoken acoustic folk to raving, churning dirge tunes; from a noisy, industrial cover of a Sonic Youth song to oldschool punk from when it was still raw, fast, and unforgiving. Powerviolence peppers the grounds where spooked whispers whinny along, and the caustic words of a madman festering in his own mind play out over perpetually plucked guitar strings. A true honour it is to work with these amazing artists, and I do hope we can keep them coming back for years.
