(- Smith, + Brian Martinez, percussion; + Cody James, bass, vocals; + "Miss" Lisa Kleinzweig, vocals; + Mark Deutsch, keys, guitar). "Welcome to the Breakfast Show" [Alright, 2006]. (- Martinez, + Chris Greenspan "Walter Kaminski", guitar). "Minimum R&B," "Manifest Destiny's Child" (Alright, 2007). Group disbands.
The Most formed in post-9/11 Santa Cruz, CA, a resort town on the Montery Bay serving as a safe haven for low-grade college anarchism and whose southern-facing coast is considered responsible for the area's wealth of kookery.
Following its 2004 inception, The Most changed its form and its sound more often than the actual members (a loosely connected network of musicians and well-wishers) changed their socks. They appeared as a two-piece lo-fi band in the vein of Beat Happening, as a shitkicking power trio playing at Who volumes, as a polyrhyhmic four-piece R&B ensemble with an indispensable backup singer/dancer/percussionist/hype man, and as a full six-piece wall of pyschedelic jamouts. At the end of the day, however, the Most was little more than an ungodly racket. They cared about DIY, being hella posi and they really, really wanted you to dance.
