Neon began as a concept & quickly became a collective in late 1998 when friends Tiga, Justin, John & Mark teamed up to create the perfect club night that could house the groups eclectic & ever growing musical & visual tastes. Music was evolving, but the existing clubs were getting boring & formulaic. The new club night the four were designing was to stay true to its mission of quality & originality. The Idea was to do away with the traditional club look & feel & start from scratch, doing away with lasers, smoke machines & introducing interior & graphic design, mood & lighting elements that would match the new sounds that were developing throughout the world. Everything had to change, the layout of the venue physically & visually to accommodate the new musical sound NEON was introducing.
Since its creation, NEON has been through many incarnations & almost as many venue changes until settling down at the now defunct Jai Bar in 1999 for a 1 year stretch until the club shut its doors in early 2000. Homeless & hungry, NEON took a break (while Tiga toured the world) & looked for the perfect venue to accommodate their growing following and satisfy the need for a new, raw space with quality sound & atmosphere that wasn't an existing night club. In late 2001 NEON moved into the SAT, (The Society for Art & Technology) a digital art research facility and art gallery, which provided NEON with the solution it needed; a bigger space that could fit more people comfortably & that could also be completely transformed physically every time to suit the needs of each individual event.
NEON continues to produce countless successful events at this and other venues, hosting the likes of Soulwax LIVE, James Murphy, Tim Sweeny, 2 Many DJs, LCD Soundsystem, Digitalism, Alex Gopher, The Glimmers, Headman, Tiefshwarz, MSTRKRFT, Mylo, Juan Maclean, DJ T, MANDY, Vive La Fte, Miss Kitten & The Hacker, James Friedman, Felix Da Housecat, Crossover, Chromeo, Jori Hulkkonen, Martini Bros, Black Strobe, Ivan Smagghe, Richie Hawtin, Morgan Geist, Tiga, A touch of Class USA, Jesper Dahlbck, DJ Hell, Steve Bug, Highfish, Tommie Sunshine, ADNY, Water Lilly, MOTOR LIVE, Jordan Dare , Plastique De Reve, Boys Noize, The Presets, Riton, Gildas & Masaya (Kitsune) and many more.
NEON has consistently drawn over capacity crowds to all of its events.
soo.... is there even the remotest chance in hell you could pull in R.Foxx's side project "SLUTTT" into town? Because, man, if s/he can pull that off Live, that show would totally kill. just sayin':)
Btw, someone once requested you guys pull in The Bloody Beetroots, and you know what, I'll second that. And while yer at it, how's about Phones, and Shiny Toy Guns? In fact, a tag team between L.A.-based live-act Shiny TG and DJs Gun's&Bombs would really be the shizz.
