Since forming in 2006 as THE GREAT APES, these Melbournian Psych-Popsters have delivered steaming hot serves of synth-infected garage to ravenous Victorian rock connoisseurs.
In this time, the recently renamed GO-GO SAPIEN have shared stages with international and local rock ‘n’ roll luminaries such as The Soundtrack of Our Lives , (Sweden), Spencer P. Jones, and EVEN to name (drop) but a few .
Their debut (micro) EP “Bebe Disque” was launched in the spring of 2007. This recording was described as both “pretty small” and “pretty good.” (Anon.)
Their debut album - 'MERMAN' was birthed to the public via an audiovisual spectacular at the East Brunswick Club 30th May 2009.
This was preceeded by a two week revolving art exhibition "International Fortnight of the Merman" featuring 11 visual artists visual interpretations of G.G.S. songs from the album.
"A brilliant album." (Dave Graney)
"Grim, gnarly psych-rock...with big sexy guitars.”
(Simone Ubaldi, Beat Magazine)
"The best Australian album of 2009". (Elizabeth McCarthy, Bananalounge Broadcasting, 3RRR FM)
"...a slick marriage of schlock tinged psychedelic pop and college humour"... You can't create this shit. It has to evolve".
(Patrick Emery, BEAT MAGAZINE)
WE MEAN IT MAN...
GO-GO SAPIEN are conspiring to record their 2nd album "This body's wrong for us"(working title) to be made available to your inner ear in 2010.

It's going to be a monster four band pile up on highway 666 as Vultures of Venus crash into the Birmingham on Thursday the 3rd of ..heir debut LP which is now available through I-Tunes has been receiving strong support and favorable reviews from local radio RRR, PBS and Syn Fm. It will also be available in hard copy on the night. This gig is gonna be fun, fun, fun on the Smith st autobahn. Armed with big rock riffs and blazing electrified keys this is the Vultures first show since their sellout LP Launch. This is a band with a plan; and that plan is to make you do the Can Can. Joining them on the night is Mirrorhouse Antics whos live show is a cross between the Arctic Monkeys and The Stooges. They have just released their debut album, recorded at Bakehouse by Mikey from Eddie Current Suppression Ring. Dan Webb's 60's styled Hammond infused insanity is gonna be something to look out for as well as the 'Wise Flys' : they'll make you laugh they'll make you cry, they'll make you laugh about crying. And don't forget to look out for the crazy clown pinyada filled with burning flesh and give away fun toys for the kids. This is a B.Y.O "leotard friendly event ". Roll up roll up, Vultures of Venus are back in town you funky disco cats. And guess what? ... their self-titled debut LP is finally here! Ten tracks of unadulterated Glampunk Electro madness! It’s unleashed on Thursday 29th of October at Bar Open on Brunswick St. It’s Bowie on steroids; it’s Marquis de Sade and Andy Warhol screaming at the moon through a home-made vocoder. The Lollyshop is open for business ! It’s going to be a huge night filled with bubble machines, strobes, psychedelic video projections and cautionary tales to tell your grandchildren. It will also feature live performances from those vixens of burlesque “the Venus Man Traps”. Support on the night comes from psych-popsters Go-Go Sapien serving up synth-infected garage with lashings of ravenous big sexy guitars. Make sure you get down early to catch the debut performance by newcomers Tusk. And most importantly we have kept the entry fee down to a very affordable – FREE ! Copies of Vultures of Venus’s LP can be scoped up for a low $10 on the night. Yee-Har space cadets !

G'day Come on down to the Tote on Sunday the 27th of September to celebrate the end of another Footy season. The back line will be ably defended by Gruntbucket. Coming off the bench to take their position on the wing are Dirty York. Winning the ball at all the stoppages will be the mighty mid field attack of The Get Go. They'll send the ball rocketing toward the fantastic forward line of Clinkerfield who are sure to kick a swag of goals. There'll be plenty of snags on the barbie to help with the hangover.
Psychedelic Rock Band, Slocombe’s Pussy, will interpret the live projected tattoos of Tony "the Face" Cronin, former chauffeur & bodyguard of Chopper Read. This show is a collaboration between Musicians, a Video Artist and a Tattoo Collector. Slocombe’s Pussy are joined by saxophone firebrand, Adam Simmons and New Blood co-conspirator Ben Carr and, visual artist and VJ Paul Rodgers, in a chaotic journey of searing saxophones, improvised guitar solos, noise and sonic brutalism, layered over rugged riffs. Slocombe’s Pussy sonically tell the stories etched in Tony’s skin since he started collecting tattoos at 13 years of age.
