We Live Only Once EP - £1.99
These four compositions were brought to life when I was a student in BA Sonic Arts at the Middlesex University, London, 2000-2003. All of them are results of exploring studio as a compositional tool (like using feedback, treatments and mixing as a way of composing) and a theme that appeared unwittingly to define these composition was that of travel, being in a new place and immersed in the moment. The first piece relies heavily on a tape recording that a friend of mine, Lee Clough, had made during her journey in India - timestretched and improvised upon the feedback signals here. Butterfly is based on a recording of our class room ambience which I've then amplified, with further fluctuations from SuperCollider - and Lee's travels again. 'Dusk Dust' was an attempt at an African way of composing but features finally a spoken word by my long-time collaborator Green aka Megumi Matsubara so the result is somewhere between Lagos and Tokyo...
Ilpo Jauhiainen (b. 1977 Finland) is a composer, sound artist and writer. He doesn't take himself too seriously, only when it comes to make something worthwhile happen. His musical interest tends to drift towards ephemeral, possible, probable, futuristic, taut, oddly sensuous, delicately moving. He loves to sit in sunsets for rather long time.
Studied BA Sonic Arts at the Middlesex University, London UK, 1999 to 2003. Often working in cross platform/multidisciplinary applications, from purely music to art installations, dance and performance to film and theatre. Currently living in Helsinki, Finland.
After the success of the first in our series of concerts, we are now pleased to announce the second installment. EM #2 will act as a showcase for the Miasmah label, who have been rapidly gaining fans and critical acclaim since their debut CD release in 2006. Held in the beautiful location of the Theaterkapelle in Friedrichshain, expect an evening of darkly-lit atmospheres and Lynchian soundscapes!
