  • Bio

Starting in Glasgow as guitar player and songwriter in Delay, Ian McKelvie played in student unions before moving east after graduation to look for work in Fife and thence to the fair city of Edinburgh. Here the indie folk music aswell as the unique atmosphere of the city moved things in a more acoustic direction. On a visit to New York a memorable night was also had at CB's lounge (CBGB) involving a short set followed by an drunken but hopefully interesting rendition of Brown Sugar with The Bowery Boys. It a shame they closed the place down. Having just returned from a six month trip across Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the latest project is a 7 track EP recorded back home in Glasgow at Chem19 studios with engineer/producer Mr Andy Miller (Life Without Buildings, The Fratellis, Sons and Daughters) The Colourful EP features solo acoustic songs as well as fuller sounding tracks thanks to contributions from the talented ensemble of friends and wonderful people known as The Colourful Band. Released on 8th March 2009, on vetrecords Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy the tunes Now available from iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-colourful-ep/id310728311 And from; Avalanche Records, on The Grassmarket Edinburgh Vinyl Villains, 5 Elm Row, Leith Walk, Edinburgh Elvis Shakespeare, 347 Leith Walk, Edinburgh To date have opened for the inimitable Jeremy Jay (K records), shared stage with Broken Records. to book contact: vetrecords@hotmail.com Thanks Ian

  • Sounds Like

**** The Skinny............................................................... "The Colourful EP is a delight. Think music reminiscent of acoustic Go-Betweens, which, when coupled with poetically simple lyrics such as "my mouth's just as dry as the Edinburgh sky" create an atmosphere free of pretense. what resounds most clearly is the arrival of a promising songwriting talent." ................................................................................................................... The Scotsman / Under the radar....... "With soothing, folky finger-picking, upbeat riffs and McKelvie's voice as soft and comforting as velvet underwear, The Colourful Band have charm in abundance. For those of us stuck at home in these financially dark times, McKelvie's music can do our travelling for us, whilst providing a timely reminder of why home is so special after all."
