..*What Would Batman Do?* If there’s one thing I know, it’s that the world is always changing, and if there is one thing that doesn’t change, it’s my lack of power. The fact that no matter how far I’ve traveled this road, what I learn, or how strong I become, I cannot protect them. I cannot reach into the darkness of this world and succeed at being more than a flicker. When I think of this my heart is like a blade. Even if we can’t protect others by extending our hands, we desire a blade for those hands to grasp. Some people can live their lives without needing a reason. It is so easy to submerge one’s self in the world your life deals you. Some take it at face value and remain oblivious to everything else. Is the need to live for a reason any different than the need to fight for a reason? You wouldn’t think twice to send a man to jail for deciding to beat a guy up in the middle of Ihop just because he felt like fighting. At the same time, there is no honor in subjugating one’s self to someone else’s goals merely because one isn’t strong enough to make their own. If fate is a wheel, we are the sand that is crushed in the cogs. Perhaps some people search for power in order to crush their own fate. Regardless of the countless life stories and concepts and ways of thought that have come before me, I choose exactly what and who I’m living for and am unable to waste my breath with anything that is meaningless. With that choice is a promise. That promise is an assurance as well as an oath to myself, unbreakable and unchanging. It becomes a fact of my existence. I hope for the future because I know that with whatever power I acquire I will use it to defend those in my life who need it. I hope for the future because I know that I will make memories with the one’s I love. I hope for the future because I swear that if there is a power in the universe whereby I can use to rage against the dying of the light, I will find it, I will be it. I hope for the future that I might be that hope...
