About me:
..

The Christopher Joseph Concha Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. It was founded after the death of our son Christopher. Like many premature babies, Christopher’s battle for life started as soon as he was born. Many of these babies do not just battle with low birth weight, they also encounter many other challenges such as NEC, congenital heart defects, and common chronic lung diseases. Our mission for The Foundation is to provide support and education to parents with premature children, to raise awareness to the general public about premature births, and to support research into premature related illnesses.

Christopher was born on May 3, 2005, he was 29 weeks 3 days, and weighed 2lbs 6oz. He was delivered early due to complications with preeclampsia. Christopher was born with double outlet right ventricle, VSD, a 2 vessel umbilical cord, hypospaidus, and what made him most special to me, his extra thumb on his right hand.

Christopher was a true fighter who never gave up. He was given to us and to all of you for a reason. Please cherish every minute you are able to spend with your child and hold those moments close. We thank all the doctors and nurses who cared for Christopher, and want you to know you each are special.

I was told at 18 that i would never be able to have children but On march 15t of this year (my 21st bday) my water broke, i was only 31 weeks pregnant. On the 19th day of my stay they induced me, my son was only 34 weeks gestation age. He was born at 10:40 pm on April 2nd weighing 4lbs and 15ozs. During my stay they told me not to expect him home until at least my due date (may 14) because of many family genetic reasons on top of his prematurity. To everyone suprise EJ did not need any major equipment he only had an iv, heart monitor, pulse ox, and was in an incubator. For 6 days I stayed by my sons side 24 hours a day, sleeping in a rocking chair and only leaving to use the restroom and to eat when i absolutely had to, praying for God to just let him make it home alright. On the 7th day the NICU nurses suprised us with easter gifts, and a card reading "Mommy I hope your ready for me, because tonight we will finally get to go home." I cried hugging and thanking them all. Ej will be a month old this Saturday and is now over 6lbs, he is thriving daily! As I read all your comments I think about how I was never a religious person before this happened, but to this day I believe it is God who made my son's life possible! And to him I will always be thankful he gave me my little miracle and brought him home safely to me. So do not give up hope and remember no matter your location, race, or situation you have people all around the world that will love you and support you!

Our daughter was born 8 weeks early weighing 2 lbs. 5.6 ozs. She spent 6 weeks in the NICU 2 of those weeks due to a staff infection in her neck glands. We got extremely lucky that for being a preemie and so small she didn't need breathing support or antibiotics at birth. It was scary seeing her there watching all the other babies go home, but we're thankful for the nurses that were very supportive. Its nice to see a community support system. Lilith Renae' is now 12 wks old and 5 lbs. 10 ozs.
Dat's MY STINK!! <3

Just over 14 yrs ago, I had a baby girl weighing 1 lb, 3 oz. She was almost 23 weeks gestational age. We endured so much for her time in the NICU, all the lung issues, intestinal, heart problems, even sepsis so bad at one point she was nothing but a huge scab. Today, she is a wonder!! Funny, sarcastic, basically a normal kid.
She escaped all that was supposed to come her way!! Children like this are here for a reason--lets see to it that they know it, live it!

My Joey was born premature at about 29 weeks due to a huge ovarian cyst that the doctor neglected. He was on a vent for about 2 weeks and CPAP for about another 3 weeks. He has a condition called BPD severe GERD, and anemia. He has 2 blood transfusions while he was in the NICU. He is now 7 months old he is still on oxygen but otherwise is doing great. He is disabled with premature motor skills. He was in the hospital for about 3 1/2 months still we could take him home.
I am truly blessed and everyday is a miracle for me!!PhotobucketPhotobucket

Thanks for the add. My daughter has a different story. She was only roughly 3 weeks early. I had gone to the dr. and had a non-stress test, where they noted regular decels on the monitor. When her heart rate dropped below 80 they got very concerened. I am a long time diabetic and they were worried about the decels in her heart so I was immediately sent to the hospital to have an emergency c-section. She came out with her cord tied in a knot and wrapped around her neck. But all 7 lb 11 oz of her was there! She is a beautiful intelligent 5 year old now and a true blessing in my life. I am so sorry about your loss of Christopher. I cant imagine what that was like.
Thanks again for the add

Thank you for the add. My daughter was bornat 35 weeks and now there saying its passible she was born at 27 weeks. Because of the amount of brain damage and deley from prematurity. She stayed in the nicu for three weeks after birth. And is deaf in one ear now . But she has such a strong spirit. And is always happy.

Thanks for the invite...and Im so sorry for you loss. My oldest was born at 31 weeks due to serve preeclampsia...i was in hospital bedrest for 3 weeks because e-r c-section. He was born at 2lbs 3oz and 15.5in. He stayed 75days in the NICU...He had alot of issues thankfully nothing that effects him now. He is a active almost 4years old. His only issue now is he has a heart condiction (svt) we have been told it was nothing to do wtih being a preemie! My daught is 4 months old and was born at 37 weeks...stay 6 days in NICU. I went into labor early because my son was in the hospital with his heart problem...all the stress put me in labor. My poor hubby and family. My son was in e-r while i was at L & D. Anyways, THe days spend in the NICU was one of the best times, I learned so much about everything and I respect the NICU nurses and NICU parents...its not easy having a baby in there, but we all share one thing in common and thats our little miracles...weather they are with us today or watching over us. I hope everyone had a good experiance with there peemies...dont get me wrong...as much as it was hard to see my little guy that way and spend 75 days there, i will never forget a single day we spent in the NICU! I would love to hear more stories about everyone...it nice to talk to people who have been through it...no one understands unless you have been though it.
thank and god bless

Thank you so much for the add. All of my 3 children were born premature. All due to preeclampsia. My oldest who is 5, was born @ 24 weeks 2 days weighing in at 1# 6.5 oz. and 10" long. She has cerebral palsy amongst other problems such as CLD and learning disabilities. My middle child is 4 and was born @ 32 weeks 3 days and weighed in at 3# 10 oz and was 15" long. He has since had surgery on his stomach to corrrect a GERD reflux problem and has been on Apnea monitors, G-tube fed, and has CLD. My youngest is 2 and was born at 35 weeks 2 days and weighed 4# and was 18" long. She has a significant hearing loss in her left ear.
Through all of this I so wish they would educate people on the dangers of preeclamspia and how it not only affects the mother but also the child. It nearly killed me and my three children. I am so sorry for your loss but am grateful you have turned a tragedy into a miracle and are willing to continue to help those with premature infants.

I am a nurse in the NICU. I see it from the other perspective. I have cried many many tears over the loss of our babies. The day I stop crying is the day I quit. I love all the babies we have. I feel for the parents. I love my job and wouldn't do anything else. I am sorry for your loss. I hope that I can help some other parents make it through troubled time and will always do my utmost to take care of those who need me.....thanks for the add.

Thanks for the invite. I am so sorry for the loss of your son. I had my first grandson born at 29 weeks(my daughters)at 2 lbs 10oz, then 7 days later my daughter in law delivered my 2nd grandson at 26 weeks at 2 lbs 1oz.The 1st one came home right away but my second has gone thru so much. He had surgeries for n.e.c., had an infection, trouble eating, then finally after 105 days in the n.i.c.u. came home but only for 3 wks he got an infection again in his p.i.c.c. line and is currently back in the hospital. Im praying for a speedy recovery.

Thank you so much for the request.
My little Alex was born in 2005 just like Christopher. She was born at 27 weeks and was 2 pounds 2 ounces. She's a true miracle and she made us realize how fragile life can be. We are now participating actively in our local Preemies associations.
God bless baby Christopher.
Much Love.

I am very sorry for the loss of your beautiful son. You are doing a wonderful thing in wanting to help educate and support people with premature babies. My own daughter was born at 25 weeks 0 days, weighing only one pound and 11 1/4" long. She was in the NICU for 5 1/2 long months....by the grace of God, she's now home with us and doing great. Her only lasting effect is blindness due to Retinopathy of Prematurity. I would be happy to help you (or any parent wanting to know more about ROP) with resources and such.
Thanks again!!

Thanks for the add and sharing the story of your little angel, I am sorry for your loss.
I had my daughter on August 20, 2005 at 33 weeks due to severe preeclampsia, IUGR, and finally placental abruption. She was 3lbs 5 ozs and 16 inches long because she stopped growing at 30 weeks, after 2 weeks in the NICU she got NEC and was rushed to a different hospital where she stayed another almost 3 weeks and then came home, the first year was rough, she's had many disgestional problems but she is now 3! She is happy, healthy and spoiled LOL! I am so greatful for all the medicines and everything we have now, truly it saved my daughter's life.
