..Masthead Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com! Click here to make your own!.............. [[Allow Me 2 Invite You- To 'TEE Time'...]] There’s a lot to be said about this rising star. Right away you could gather that she's far from boring; introducing herself as a Poet-Singer-Songwriter and yes, MC. Born in Ontario, raised in Montreal, Quebec, Natasha A.K.A, ‘MISS TEE’, was a budding teen who was realizing that she loved to sing and yet was still trying to find her voice when she began writing poetry in the winter of 98' . A few years later that led her to rap when she decided to take her rhyming schemes to the next level. "Rap for me was a much more emotional release than writing poetry was. Writing a poem was great because I would read it back and be satisfied with my craft, but it was still too much of a passive-aggressive way of releasing my thoughts. Rapping actually gave me more character when I got to a point where I would allow myself to become immersed in the words and the feelings I had when I wrote them. Rapping allowed me to tell a story with more attitude. I used to be so quiet but yet say so much in my poems, many people wouldn't believe I had written them myself. Where as for me, rap says, 'this is me, listen closely as I reenact my story', and then I'd try and reenact the hell out of it." Little did she know that expressing her deepest thoughts, would soon gain her respect and praise from unknown listeners, to other artists alike, from all over the web with her first single recorded in winter 2008, 'Everyday', (that aired on CKUT 90.3fm). This Canadian gal does not shy away from much of anything as far as lyrical content is concerned. In ‘Everyday’, (A Hip Hop remake of the well-known Sam Cooke’s ‘Summertime’), she sheds light on the ‘hard knock’ era of her life. Making reference to her father’s passing when she was nine years old, she ‘spits’ the line, "AIDS didn’t just kill him I swear it killed me, been carryin’ depression like an STD." So what’s so different about this female MC’s ballsy personal story-telling next to any other artist? Well, with lines like, "Dark challenges led me to the gold horizon" And her chorus, "Life is golden live it like, everyday is Summertime", its clear that this woman is making a strong point. She states, "I find that we need to consider the cons that can come with sharing our personal experiences in our music. Yes, we can all relate to the downside of life’s happenings, but while we have the power to be heard as artists, we have to leave people with something that inspires them." [[The Creativity Wheel: Reinvented...]] Maybe when you think of a female MC, you picture L'il Kim or Nicki Minaj who are both very good at what they do, but what sets MISS TEE a part, is her soulful R&B voice that'll catch you off guard in her hook. If Alicia Keys could also rap, THEN, maybe that would be a reasonable comparison. Or if EVE could belt out a jazzy note, then again that would paint a better picture. Seems to me, this is just the beginning of a new era of music. In a world where people are easily bored with repetition, we are in need of a woman with confidant big ideas, creativity up her sleeves and multi-talented skills to pull it all off. When asked what else she'd love to do if given the chance she responded, "I've always been a very expressive and self- sufficient person, that'll never change. I itch to write books, design clothes and accessories, paint and create new inventions all for the sake of sharing my brain with the world and wanting to contribute to the simple pleasures of life. I thrive off of being different and unpredictable. I will always have a say and play a large part in my productions; that's just me, I wouldn't have it any other way." And if you don't believe her, these crafty 50 dollar bill fliers with her face on it, is completely original down to the tinniest hearts that surround the numbers and stamped as coming from the 'Universal Bank Of Love' complete with her MySpace address, contact info, the composer and title of her new pop single, 'Take It To The Bank'. Anxious for heavy promotion, she's got hundreds of copies ready to distribute. "I had sketched my version of what I wanted it to look like, which is inspired by the Canadian 50 dollar bill and my best friend worked her graphic designing magic to make it come alive." [[From EVE to Miss Keys...]] I had to ask the reason for jumping from Hip Hop to Pop so quickly, so she enlightened me: "Well, two reasons: 1- Being a Hip Hop female MC in Montreal where a lack of bilingualism is common among the urban community, doesn't help for promotion and buzz on a greater scale throughout the city. Unfortunately, the anglophone community is the minority in Montreal and the anglophone support group can barely help artists to come up and out of the city with a name people will remember. Especially since a lot of people will argue that 'Everybody wants to be a rapper' now days, so the talented really have to take initiative to stand out and show that they're serious. 2- I also just wanted to take a break from the rap for a minute and show a side of myself no one has seen before. For me, a time for change has introduced itself and everything about it feels right. I will rap here and there, and of course I will perform at open mic nights and recite spoken word and poetry as well, but it seems like this first EP I'm working on will be focused more on the R&B aspect of myself; the woman and artist in me that first fell in love with R&B and singing. That, I feel will appeal to more people. Rap isn't for everybody. It may be unfortunate for some, but on a greater scale, pop is easier to sell. After that, the spectrum may broaden. And lastly, in a nutshell of what to expect from this songwriter's new single, 'Take It To The Bank': "It's all about showing and proving your worthiness rather than saying and claiming it at a time where I believe most people would get desperate and start making promises to each other to change the second time around if given the chance. I wrote it in one sitting in about an hour and I went to TriZzE, for the hot beat I envisoned for it. He's incredibly talented and has only ever written, composed beats, recorded and mixed everything himself; and until this project, we had never worked together. We used to joke that he'd be like Timbaland and I'd be Aaliyah or Missy and we'd be inseparable in our music. So I can't even describe how surreal it was to finally work with my cousin on a song together." It is definitely the beginning of a journey that promises for more hot music to come! >>You have just had a cup of MISS TEE.<<
