Steve McMackin

About me:

I have been to the top of Mount Fuji and the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I've written three albums and am working on a fourth. I've been a DJ, bartender, freelance designer, a teacher in two schools, and now, I'm a full-time webmaster and graphic designer.

I was born in Phoenix and lived with my parents in Glendale (AZ) and went to school at Brophy College Prep until I went to college at the University of Arizona (in Tucson) in 1998. I was expelled from and readmitted to both schools. I graduated with a graphic design degree in Spring '04.

I own a 1962 Volkswagen Beetle, in the Baja style. I am married. My desk is a mess. I like ginger ale. I was in The Phoenix Boys' Choir and an Eagle Scout, and I'm unhappy about the BSA's direction in the last 5 years. I started riding on talent and laziness since I was about 16. I've been trying to break that ever since.

I have learned that only effort truly matters. I have found that the harder I work, the luckier I get. I like to tell stories. I occasionally wish I were President.

I once had an M16 casing embedded and still smoking in my leg.
I had vein compression and thrombosis in the thoracic cavity, and was once given 48 hours to live by a very competent doctor, should the surgery he was to perform fail.
He obviously did not fail.
I lived in Tokyo for the better part of a month on about $400.

I got my first car, quit my job, had life-saving surgery, got two more jobs, planned and executed my wedding within four months (Febrary to May, 2004). In that order.

I believe I am capable of not having regrets in 30 years, but know I will probably fail. I will try anyway and hope it makes for a good story and good example. .. .. .. ..
