"Impure Theatre presents 'The Artists Provisionally Known As Ape Has Killed Ape!'

"Ape enthusiasts Tim and Emily leave behind 2% of their DNA but bring with them some mellifluous spite and rage. Expect terse prose, scuffy beats, cornet and glockenspiel. Plus a menagerie of percussion instruments - none of which require the fine motor skills associated with opposable thumbs."

I thought you might be interested in a new myspace group I started called Gigswap. The group includes a list of independent promoters from around the UK.

I started the group to try to help my favourite Birmingham bands get gigs elsewhere and to try to encourage my favourite bands from elsewhere to get gigs in Birmingham. How anyone uses the group is up to them.

I called it Gigswap beacuse most small independent promoters seem reluctant to book bands from out of town that they don't know, so, perhaps, gigswapping might persuade them otherwise.

Generation Txt

May 4 2007 9:00 AM

FOURTEEN SHOWS, SIX POETS, ONE VAN…
… YES, IT’S GENERATION TXT

Following the success of acclaimed new poetry anthology Generation Txt, penned in the margins is taking the six gifted young poets featured in the book on a national tour to fourteen venues. Hand-picked from a nationwide search for writing talent, the poets include former Northern Young Writer of the Year Emma McGordon and celebrated performance poet Inua Ellams, as well as Joe Dunthorne, whose debut novel Submarine has just been snapped up by Hamish Hamilton. Natural Sciences graduate Laura Forman, creative writing student Abigail Oborne and experimental poet and text artist James Wilkes complete the bill.

Hailed by distinguished poet and critic Roddy Lumsden as 'a vital cross-section of the poetry that will progress and flourish' and by the TES as 'a creative ideas manual', the Generation Txt tour will be a must-see event for anyone interested in the future of literature.

WHassup Emile et Timmy?

I feel I must apologise for having been missing Ape and 'plex gigs left right and proverbial centre of late... But come Saturday I will (inshallah) have quALIfied as an English language teacher, and have nothing holding me back (other than the vast length of Cowley Road) from trotting up to "da X" for a bit of xylophonic introspection. I'm looking forward to it :)

(I've become an inveterate user of emoticons since last you saw me, btw)

(and also things like "btw")

Btw, did you see Richard James (ex of Gorky's) is playing at the Wheatsheaf next Weds? His stuff sounds absolutely ace Wanna go?

Also, the Evenings (who I've not seen yet but sound really good) are on at the Cellar on Tuesday. Wanna go>?

Oh, what a week it promises to be. My earplugs will seldom have been so well-used.

Take it easy...

p.s. facebook, eh... it's like crack, y'know

This record is the transcription of “Blue Time vs Suspenses”, an exhibition by Saâdane Afif at Gallery Xavier Hufkens (Brussels), in January 2007. Generation Txt

Jan 29 2007 10:29 AM

Hi! I’m Generation Txt, the acclaimed new anthology of poetry featuring Joe Dunthorne, Inua Ellams, Laura Forman, Emma McGordon, Abigail Oborne and James Wilkes.

You can buy me from at Amazon, direct from Penned in the Margins or at selected bookshops nationwide.

Joe Dunthorne, Inua Ellams, Laura Forman, Emma McGordon, Abigail Oborne, James Wilkes

'The current generation of poets under 30 sees the factional stances which lead their predecessors as petty and limiting. Generation Txt looks at all points of poetry's star and is less concerned with the middle ground, which makes this selection of young writers more vital and a truer cross-section of the poetry that will progress and flourish.' Thankyou thankyou. I am not sure. Oxford gigs...gigs I mean are hard to come by but there is idle chat of potentially playing the cellar soon I believe.

Good stuff.

Why thank you. Returning the complement, I had a lot of time for MBICR. Actually I mention you (in that guise) in a recent review. 'Antennas to heaven'.Know them? Worth checking IMHO.

More importantly, best of luck with the new project. I'll be keeping tabs.
