Influences

To get an idea of what inci sounds like, cross Joni Mitchell with Tracy Chapman, add the quirkiness of Björk and Frou Frou, reach the high pitches of Enya and feel the studio sound of Zero 7 and Air.

Looking back, inci has grown up on, listens to and draws her inspiration from artists such as Björk, Joni Mitchell, Jill Scott, Les Nubians, Frou Frou, Coldplay, Bebel Gilberto, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Sade, all sorts of jazz musicians from Billie Holiday to John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock, as well as the Turkish queen of pop Sezen Aksu.

   About Inci

inci (by the way, that's pronounced 'indjee') is a singer songwriter who combines beautifully haunting, at times quirky melodies with moving poetry and angelic vocals ready to take you on a journey.

An influential Los Angeles-based music journalist stated, "inci delivers a dynamic and unique pop-style with a credible and infectious edge!"

Due to her immense vocal range and classical guitar playing inci is often compared to young Joni Mitchell. In fact inci's unique sound is the result of an array of musical and cultural influences.

inci can be called a real mélange. Born to a rock-loving German mum and a jazzy Turkish dad, inci was raised in Hamburg, also lived in Istanbul and Paris, travelled across five continents, and since 2000 is a proud self-proclaimed Londoner.

inci sings mainly in English, however also captivates her audience with some spell-binding lyrics in Turkish and French.

inci has been writing songs since she was 6 years old, learnt how to read music at 7 and played the piano from the age of 8. inci has been performing ever since - first with a local rock/pop band, a choir, a swinging big band, a musical theatre and now as a solo artist.

At the age of 16, inci began serious song-writing on the guitar after having laid the technical grounds with three years of classical guitar lessons (originally to impress a guy she liked at school...), and it turned out to be the best thing she'd ever done.

In 1998 inci completed her first proper recordings with producer/guitarist Thomas Onderka (Birds of Clay, German television) in Hamburg.

2000 saw inci gain more studio experience working with guitarist/producer Paul Pesco (Madonna, JLo, Mary J Blige) and producer/drummer/percussionist Gary Wallis (Pink Floyd, Mike & the Mechanics) in London and New York.

After a brief intermezzo, namely a career in a "real job" that had something to do with what inci had spent her time with at university, in October 2005 inci booked a ticket to the US to get rolling what she knew she was really meant to do in life.

On the day before her departure, inci happened to meet her future manager for the UK and Europe, Jakomi Mathews (Musicvoid Entertainment) in a café in London. He put her in touch with some great music people in Los Angeles, one of which was so blown away, he decided to become inci's representative for the US: Sat Bisla (A&R Worldwide). Three musical souls with the same vision for inci's unique journey...

These days, inci is back in the studio recording her first EP with some magical London producers. One is Mads Hauge (Tina Dico), the others are soon to be revealed...

There are great things to come.
