Chris Aquilo aka. Curtis Black Is a visual artist / DJ from Miami who
has just relocated to Boston, MA USA to start a new analog to digital
recording studio and fledgling label with partner DJ / Musician
Brenden Wesley [Phantom Dogs Disco]. We have a fetish for antique
audio equipment as it has a very clear, short and straight-forward signal path and higher
conductivity in its cables and components. I believe that the audio electronics of the past are more scientifically correct. As digital sample rates
are continually reaching new heights in terms of broader frequency range and more accurately harmonious, it only makes sense to get the music to sound how we feel it is supposed to. I think
people will be much happier to purchase a "digital master" if you will
with its hyper-sonic and sub-harmonic capabilities still intact. I think audio technology is
at an all time high and we are in the midst of a new golden age. As a
label and studio we are trying to bridge the gap between the new and
old. There is an abundance of really great new music out there and in
my opinion it has been awhile and long overdue. We are working a a few
very interesting things and looking forward to alot of great music
surfacing from all over the world. I think its a very exciting time
for dance music and music in general. Thanks for your interest in the music
! Phantom Dogs Disco wishes everyone a creative and fun week. Look out
for the limited records coming out sometime in the near future with
much better sound quality. The digital are promos for now in hopes
that people will support the records.
Reviews - Literature:
Diskoakademin (Sweeden):
The newly established label and studio outfit Phantom Dogs Disco brings together the analog minds of the two discjockeys and musicians Wesley Warren and Curtis Black, located in the midst of America that is Boston (also known as Wolf City).
With an expertice knowledge in analog recording equipment, they have with much care provided us with the first outings of their tribal cosmic funky sound from an installment of limited vinyl releases that I suspect will be on many wish lists apart from my own, as they have gained instant support from the likes of Dj Mooner & MUSICCARGO.
As they put it themselves: a new golden age of digital recording technology is upon us. If that means more music like this epic slab of slow motion disco rock, then I would happily agree.
(This is however, as the aforementioned audio wizard Curtis Black was eager to mention, a promotional version and not nearly as perfect as the mastered for vinyl version. So get your wallets ready!)
